I feel you. I been falling off the past few days and I didn’t meditate yesterday or today. Also been real sick so it’s been difficult. I was doing 20 min 3 times a day now I think I have to start back up at 10 twice a day
Hi everyone, just want to gather some info from seasoned meditators. For those people out there, can you give me a rundown on the benefits and drawbacks which your meditation practice has given you?

I’m no expert by any means but I’ve gotten no negatives. People say it can make you more aware of traumas or problems you have been neglecting. I’ve had to face my own mental problems head on with meditation due to the nature of OCD.
As for benefits I’ve noticed so far. More aware, more easily able to enter flowstates, less concerned about silly things, more equinimaty in general, strangely When I’m consistent with it I am able to recall random dreams from my subconscious.
Like I said I’m no expert

I appreciate this dude. So with your new found mindfulness is it easier too look at society and be slightly shocked at the ignorance going on? Or has your worldview stayed largely the same?
Consistency is returning again. i do miss days but the practice feels like a natural part of me again, which I guess it hasn’t for a while.
My relationship with my body is changing. I listen to it the same way the whole “be the observer to your thoughts” thing goes. Maintaining my physical health is one thing but i think I can care for it on a different compassionate level.
Theres still a ways to go

I can only say what it has done for me.
It gives my mind more space to manuever around my thoughts in everyday life, meaning i dont have to react so quickly. i can stop and act accordingly instead of diving into my emotions.
My anxiety is literally gone now.
More confidence, this is a curse and blessing for me, cause im bold as hell these days and im paying for it. But meditation makes it no big deal, since it helps you see the bigger picture.
I see reality for what it is now and it helps me disregard all stories, narratives, snd conditions about yourself and the world around you. A negative about this is that i dont care for advice anymore snd that could he mean. But im strong enough to do everything myself and pay for my own mistakes.
Theres alot more. Basically meditation is great man try it. There arent real negatives. Only people who dont understand the new you kinda be annoying but its whatever

how long did it take for you anxiety to dissapear? Im still struggling with it but I notice im way less reactive too irrational thinking or intrusive thoughts.

I have no clue really. its more of a observation that you find in retrospect. I feel like it happens for everyone if they meditate consistently.
i been meditating daily since this thread was made, so maybe a few months. i started to enjoy my thoughts and feelings and not take them serious at all. I feel like my morality got greyer tho.

i see i see, I have a problem with staying consistent more than a month and I think its getting in the way

consistency is the main thing with meditation. Regardless of quality of meditation or how much time u spent in it. Gotta do it literally everyday to feel it fully.
then one day u gonna look back and find urself not having that anxious feeling in ur chest. walkin around all light cause you know the future starts in this moment

Yeah I’m just gonna jump back in to 20 minute sessions again. Even if it feels uncomfortable at first 😭. I’ve done 45 min before so it’s not a problem, I’m so over dukkha and craving
I wanna get into 30 minute sessions twice a day soon. And then eventually 45 twice a day. Some people do hours at a time but we’ll see, I prefer multiple times a day rather than one long one

Hey man I appreciate this response
Recently I've had a change in my perspective and realised I need to start working on my baseline instead of using crutches and substances to improve it. Idk if that makes sense but yeah, meditation is like the only thing I can see actually building on the 'natural' me
I just want something that can help me deal with the ups and downs. When life throws those curve balls I want to bat them out of the park, or at least swing and hit. I feel like meditation can get me there
Also a huge thing for me is anxiety so hearing that it's basically gone for you is a great thing.
I was trying the TM technique before and it really worked but it had some adverse effects on my psychosomatic system...pins and needles, weird. Anyway I'll probably need to find another technique to stick to

yuupp and if 20 is uncomfortable try 10.
Nowadays i also prefer multiple short meditations as opposed to one long sit. i be meditating randomly now which is why my time has been fluctuating.

Yeah bro meditation is literally the answer to all those problems. Or atleast will direct you to the source of those problems and can help you deal with them healthily.
i like the saying “life is a series of tumultuous waves, meditation is like surfing on said waves” and when you meditate thats exactly how it feels. its as if you are in the middle of your thoughts and feelings as they swirl around you. With moments of pure f***ing peace since you arent attached to the thoughts. Its a pretty awesome thing to do. Its def something my progeny will carry on for generations.
Try shinkantaza/ zazen/ just sitting meditation. Its what i do sometimes. Instead focusing on your breathing, focus on your posture and hand positioning. Its a kinetic, somatic style of sitting meditation. Its easier to focus on the posture sometimes and it keeps uou from dozing off as well. Ya back gon hurt the first few times tho ngl
I got a ticket for some BS, ranted to my dad for like 4 minutes, and got over it by the time i got to the train.
In retrospect, This s*** wouldve ruined my entire day.

That back pain starts to fade away after a while if you stay still lmaoo
back to it since yesterday, mind feels scattered but thats for not meditating for a week
do you guys feel like the more you meditate the more you start too lose interest in social media, youtube, and general distractions. I still enjoy video games and movies every now and again

it def waned me off any type of sexualization/ desire if that counts. Girls are a big distraction for me.
I used to be super into women like most people. if i didnt see a beautiful girl on my screen it was like something in my day was missing. Since meditating i dont feel that way anymore. Made it easy to quit p***, lewds, any sexualization of the women has been pretty much eradicated within 2 days. For sure a product of meditation, though it was a long process to get to this point

I feel that, in the past year or so that kind of distraction has really dropped off for me. I don't think its due to meditation though, just focusing more what I want out of life, and sexual desire would get in the way. It can be such a huge distraction.
Like I recognize I still want sex, but I want other things more aka gym, diet, meditation, focusing on building my career as well.

Yup thats what i meant about it being a long process. without meditation none of my other healthier habits. Meditation is the foundation.
now that im at the gym, journaling, and eating right, plus meditation, that s*** replaced my lust at an alarming rate.
