This is key man. Alot of people think meditation is like a cure all for all problems. When in reality it simply unmasks the present moment. Whatever traumas and past hurt ppl carry gonna get exposed in a very surprising way when sitting ngl. Like rn going thru what im going thru, i feel it like 10x more as part of the waves of emotions that come and go during sitting.

Im thinking of doing therapy as well. Do y feel like meditation guided u to seek therapy?

Absolutely. The past few weeks has opened up my eyes to all my negative behaviors that keep me suffering but also really showed me what I've been running away from for a long time. It's too much to deal with on my own, and definetly need some psychotherapy.

and yeah meditation isn't a cure all like you said. It is a beautiful tool that we can use everyday though, I see no reason to stop.

I think for some highly advanced meditators who have desolved attachments and self, it is a """cure all""" but it's more complicated than that of course.

Bump. Cool session today, a lot of funny thoughts came to mind. Lots of smiles.

That silly energy made me want to revisit The Book of Joy, so I think I will.

One of the greatest perks a consistent meditation practice can give is true perspective. Although i feel like ass at the moment, im grateful for everything regardless

  • Jul 28, 2021

Just staying consistent and trying to be mindful of every moment. been going through some tough times mentally and I cling alot to the idea of emptiness... heart sutra s*** but its hard to see it

Meditating can save so many lives. It changes so many things about how you engage with the world and your own emotions/thoughts/impulses.

With practice comes a shift in more of a centered place of being. The ability to see your thoughts and emotions and to choose which way to go before just allowing things to take you here and there at a whim.

Life changes with meditation. I can honestly say it just dawned on me after years of practice what I was meant to be actually doing/ accomplishing and how it should actually impact my life. Looking forward to the practical application of it to my near and far future.

On god, like im in a similar depression as i was in back in high school but i can still see the beauty in everything. Its like a new zest for life and perspective amidst deep pain. i feel like thats all meditation. and me being able to see my self destructive habit of wallowing in despair and choosing to to push forward regardless of the depression is def a product of that

Keep trying!!! Only 5 minutes a day man

You dont even gotta sit in no uncomfortable posture. The purpose of that is to keep u awake and alert but you can do that in other ways too.

I do my meditations laying down with my legs propped up and/or with my hands across my belly so i can feel my diaphragm as i breath.

I'd like to try meditation, but I find so hard to keep still even for a couple seconds

Have you tried "do nothing" meditation or also known as "just sitting/shikantaza" in zen. Shinzen Young has some good instructions on how to do it, although it can seem confusing. I think another meditation teacher calls it "choiceless awareness". You basically sit down and just have a steady awareness, but don't place it on your breath or body or mind.

I've tried it a few times and will stick to it for some time right now. I would def suggest this meditation to anyone who has had a hard time with regular mindfulness for some time.

Yupp. That style of meditation and zazen are virtually the same thing
in my current understanding. I could be wrong. But it seems like zen teachers use them interchangeably.

I never heard of it called choiceless awareness though. Thats interesting and leads me to believe its a different type of meditation i need to look more into it

I think choiceless awareness is just a diff way of describing it. I kinda keep that in the back of my head sometimes while doing it so to remember that "do nothing" doesn't actually mean just daydream and fall asleep on the meditation cushion, because daydreaming is usually the result of following thought.

as for falling asleep, I only really fall asleep If I'm meditating in a chair or/and am not attentive of my posture

Im getting ahead of myself but I wonder if the jhanas can be accessed through this form of meditation. although I'm not too interested in whether they do or not, just that how people describe them seem interesting

yeah his videos "post-enlightenment" are super dope. in terms of information its just typical non-dual wisdom, but the way he relays that information is great... specially for us gym heads

I'd like to try meditation, but I find so hard to keep still even for a couple seconds

Then mediate for a couple of seconds every day. It's better than nothing and will help you realize the beauty of each moment. Eventually you'll want to sit still.

Meditation, like exercise, is hard and takes discipline.
