lmfao that first line is a banger even though i disagree

and yeah the third act being bad on purpose gotta be super cope.

A final act of a movie i think was super absurd and it ended up working to a degree imo was The Substance

    Fair review.

I like seeing mia goth on screen and moses sumney they were doing a lot of heavy lifting by way of their screen presence alone.

As far as the first two movies I genuinely enjoyed them albeit the cucking s*** kinda wild to watch although its effective in pointing out the dudes hypocrisy a little bit

I enjoyed the camp of X

    and think Pearl is dope.

A lot of it hinges on Mia Goths screen presence imo. I think if you don't buy her accent that might kill it for you

Saying they suck is an exaggeration, but seeing them get universal appraisal brings out the hater in me, lmaooo. I did like that they were all distinctive.

X was okay as a film, but probably solid as a slasher (I always joke that slasher/horror fans having an unbelievable low bar and if a film does the bare minimum then it's highly regarded).

I thought it was cool they flipped the archetypes around and had the "sinner" survive, the antagonist be boomers, the antagonists hate the protagonists not because they were judgmental, but because of envy and wishing that were them, etc.

But like... there was not much entertainment in seeing some boomers killing? It just felt like some Scooby Doo s***. Even the scene where they have s***it's meant to be shocking and gross, but it just seemed messed up? In the sense that you shouldn't use it to get a sort of reaction, like old people gotta f*** too, lol. But it also goes against how s***positive the film is and we're supposed to feel sympathy for Pearl's body image issues.

Pearl had an AMAZING performance from Mia, but it felt like the whole movie was just like an acting-flex and didn't do much else; it was essentially Joker 💀

MaXXXine started off promising and I enjoyed all the actors, for the most part, but then it just falls off hard, lol.

I guess my main issue is that they’re so derivative and rely on homages so much that it’s like why even make a movie? Go online and start a discourse about your favorite movies, don’t go out and make a whole ass film just to say “these are movies I like, I am referencing them, do you get the references?"

It’s like if Family Guy wasn’t a comedy but kept the runaway gags. It’s like okay, this is a reference or homage to something and then that’s it. No payoff other than if you recognize it.
