Please move on to something else
It's a whole different vibe and approach, but it did make me immediately rewatch UTSL. Shame that guy hasn't got to make another movie since
Flowervale street and They follow coming soon
He pissed on the entire industry
I would argue he didn't even do that and still got blackballed. I found the movie much more nuanced on rewatch. There are hints of great evil, but the thread the film follows is left subjective and then abandoned.

Can't come soon enough. He's 3/3 so far
Also has a sleepaway camp movie with Jim Carrey in the works

Nice nice!
You writing in google docs or you got final draft?

I'm not gonna bother with screenplay format until the end. Slows me down. Cameron would just write a whole novella with his ideas first. Better flow if I just go scene to scene and makes revisions easier. I think saw a vid where Ganz and Mandel did it that way. Two desks facing each other note cards on the wall and they'd rearrange them and tackle scenes when they felt like it.
Then I'll try to do a treatment I guess. Screenplay format last if ever. So tedious

Facts getting out that first draft as comfortable as possible is vital. So if that’s the style that works for you that’s dope.
I try to vomit draft out the first draft quick as possible and I try not to look back at typos even if I catch some.
There are currently no AMC showings scheduled for this movie past this Thursday
i wanted to do a Long Legs double feature

Theaters are in really bad shape rn. I live in Miami and have had limited opportunities to see In A Violent Nature, The Bikeriders, Maxxxine, and now LongLegs this year. Anything that isn’t some Disney s*** hardly gets any screens.
Man i wtched infinity pool last night thnking it was the prequel to this ..
ngl that movies prolly better than this one
Lots of fun to be had, especially in the small stuff, plenty to enjoy, really compelling first act, setting and period-specific looks great, a couple of very dope splitscreens
but
You can really feel how slight this of a movie this is. They nail the frothy 80s pastiche but it f***ing drags at this length, it’s simultaneously overstuffed and empty. And to say this has 3rd act problems is a f***ing understatement, even hy the most charitable “oh, haha just like the 80s!” interpretation
The on-set stuff is so disjointed and stilted that it made me wonder if they had cut out a lot of material where we maybe saw Maxine filming Puritan 2? But that can’t be possible
One of the reasons its a little less fun is because whereas Pearl was Mia Goth playing fully crazy from the first minute and everybody else was the straight man, Maxine is the most grounded character in her movie and everybody on the side is going big with wacky character choices + dialects that flop as often as they work
I tend not to read these threads once a movie is finally released until I see it but I’m glad I’m not alone In being throughly underwhelmed by this.
Really pretty movie from a visual level but beyond that this movie was so hollow and the third act was legitimately not good. Idk I enjoyed everyone hamming it up to a certain point but this was just ridiculous at times and by the end I was just over it. I did think Bobby Cannavale’s lines were funny though idk if I was laughing with the movie or at it.
I think MaXXXine had the least focus/ inspiration out of the trilogy. X works because of the genre it plays to by committing 100% and having some interesting themes about age and sex. Pearl is a technicolor nightmare with interesting themes about mental illness and familiar burdens. I could be blatantly missing some stuff here but I think thats why this feels so much lesser than those two. What was this trying to say and what is its reason for existing beyond being a sequel to a successful movie?
Third act could have benefited from some more over the top gore, and effects work
The pacing of the movie felt very janky despite being 1hr 44 mins
I would have liked to see Maxine’s character act more? She feels so motivated by her goals, but her main way of getting out of things is just forgetting about it. Which makes sense, but it would have been fun to see her slight co-stars and producers. Becoming more cold as the movie goes on.
Every single supporting character felt like cannon fodder, and I wish had more to do by the end. It was very funny though to see Moses Sumney, Halsey, and Kevin Bacon do terrible regional accents
This movie also despite coming off the heels of Pearl and X feels infinitely cheaper. Idk this could have benefited from a loftier story and more ambitious filmmaking. The conclusion felt very unceremonious
