Oh man, nobody has even talked about those. The zombies and Whedon quips really are two of the worst offenders.

The movie doesn't find any of the prior films sacred, which I think is fine. It's playing to the broadest masses while making fun of the biggest fans directly. That's cool. The annoying part is its insistence that it's actually clever to engage in cliches if you have dialogue like "sequel franchise" and "why would you use old code to teach you something new" etc. Like if you can pick these up you are smart and should enjoy the lazy bullshit because there's a sheen of commentary upon it.

At the end Neo and Trinity even tell you directly it's not ironic! It's the most libbed up boring ending, girl conquers her male abuser in tacked on wraparound scene like a boss, and you can't even call it irony or parody because they basically call it genuine sentimentality in the dialogue! Like it's liberating to be so derivative if every character admits to it in the mode of Deadpool?!
