after credit scenes are a mcu thing so who is it really making fun of?

it's similar to samsung ads that attempt to make fun of apple but end up making them look pathetic

I see your point but this is really tongue and cheek bro

    For better or for worse

As much as I s*** on this movie, when I seen people on the Reddit’s not understand that was supposed to make fun of the MCU/DCEU I was annoyed because it’s like…how can I trust negative reviews people have about the movie when they don’t even understand the post credit scene…people thought that s*** was real

I don’t want to sound demeaning to those people, cus i’m sure they are sincere when they say that

But i don’t believe anyone who turns their emotions to the side and actually sits through the whole movie with it’s obvious criticisms of the industry and then lands on that after credits scene can arrive at the conclusion that it was meant to simply imitate mcu or fanservice or whatever

I mean, if the movie was actually decent those jokes would have been funny, but it's just the blacked out drunk bum in front of the bar making fun of those passing by

You have to agree the effects were a massive step down tho

Like regardless of the message of the film, we should have atleast for the level of care the special effects/ choreography had in the trilogy. That’s kinda inexcusable for a matrix movie, Covid or not.

Choreography i mainly agree with especially fighting scenes

But tbh it’s not that offputting to me considering both Keanu and Carrie-ann aren’t exactly flexible 20-somethings anymore

    Like?

For instance the original matrix trilogy was almost like “avatar” in a way…it changed evreything in special effects. This stuff was pretty run of the mill for the most part to me. Some okay stuff but nothing like the trilogy when it came to pushing the industry.

And that I understand btw but they could have still done things to make that less obvious

I mean it wasn’t meant to be tho

So no i don’t have a problem with the stylistic direction they took for this one. It fit the vibe and story they were aiming to unfold

That’s where we might always disagree… I feel like that’s so important to “the matrix” in general. It pushed boundaries.

At least mcu know what they are doing and don't pretend to be something they ain't (less so with eternal), you either like it or u dont. Resurrections is the 50 yo dad pretending to be a teenager

For me personally it can be a romantic movie a comedy movie an action movie or even a racing movie

As long as the story is told in a believable way without retconning the previous iterations and universe of the Matrix

In my mind the Matrix was never about action but about a broader point where the action was only used as a visual device to get you latched unto the deeper themes and ideas

They can sprinkle these ideas into any format they like if they do it consistently enough imo

    The film literally says this

It was FORCED to be made and then it made the storyline unfold in the best way it possibly could without retconning the previous Matrix movies

Does a film admitting its shallow, corporate nature while also indulging in every cliche of that ilk make it good?

It doesn't retcon the plot of the prior movies- it makes fun of the entire franchise and its adherents. There's a brief stretch in Io where that isn't true, and some themes being explored are simply retreading the prior films+anthology, but for most of Matrix 4 the story is a superficial premise to hang a diatribe on. It's one part parody and one part Ted Talk.

Fine, cool, do something different, but I think the gravest sin is the movie not even taking the entertainment aspect seriously. It revels in its lazy, subpar construction. It is feeding you lowest common denominator slop with poor action sequences, pixar robots, stock side characters, etc and really expects you to clap because you know it's ironic! Worse still, it tries to convince you it's actually being post-ironic!

I didn’t say it was shallow

You might not like how it looks or lacks action but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t enough to feast your eyes or mind on. Just cause you have a set mind of what a matrix movie should be, look or sound like doesn’t make you “right”. I mean feel free to hate on the movie, but don’t argue people on what they clearly enjoyed.

It was a thoughtprovoking, visually interesting 2,5 hour ride if i may speak for myself. And many others have said the same, so clearly not everything is as clear cut as you’re making your gripes out to be.

And it’s not simply ironic, it’s critical of other people’s perception of the Matrix. It does that in substantial and deep ways that actually leave room for you to further explore the concept of the actual Matrix

Why is there even mcu type jokes in the matrix, a respectable/serious action flick?

Did they feel that the 2 sequels ruined the legacy, so they went ahead and burned it altogether to the ground?
