Not good. This movie gave me suicidal ideation. One more monologue of fan fiction lore and philosophy 101 and I wouldn't be here

    Y’all gassing it

That's not an interpretation. That's my response to this repulsive, pretentious dogshit.

You can't misinterpret this movie. There is no subtext. It's all supertext. The membrane between theme and plot is gone. Every trope it leans into is apparently excused by that transparency. It's ugly. It's boring. Yuck

if thats your opinion, thats your opinion. but its very possible to misinterpret super text; almost just as easily as subtext. i think its more about effecting neo's belief in himself, he tried to escape the matrix, and the a***yst calls it suicide to control him. but its also more than that its a reference to lana's real life suicide attempt and how she felt like her own success was controlling her. she wanted to escape that. the matrix now is more personal and adaptive and emotional. so to me its a pretty genius move to take one of the lowest personal and emotional moments of your life and then adapt it to the character that you're using to display the same tonal feeling that drove you to that attempt. fwiw i'm a suicide survivor too and personally didnt view it as ideation but thats just me

There is no point in interpreting a movie that probably spends an hour painstakingly explaining exactly what it is about to you. Just quote the characters themselves. There are no secrets here.

This movie had me trippin the first hour I was deadass thinking the matrix was all in his head that’s how you know a movie captivates you

If all you got from Neo stepping off the ledge was that he was suicidal you missed a lot tbh

It’s okay if it didn’t connect with you or if you didn’t like the meaning but to call it pointless to dissect in a film section dedicated to doing exactly that is pretty disingenuous

Still haven’t seen this yet, but it seems like Toy Story 4 vibes.

Like ok, you’re subversive, cool, whatever. This story already ended tho.

This isn't an argument. You actually preclude arguing when your preamble is "subjectivity is everything". This movie talks about itself enough. Find another fanboy to dissect its vacuous contents with.

i kind of fear these absolutist positions, because yes this is challenging but ive seen it 3 times and i feel like ive gotten something different from it every time. its just coming from a place that is not a masculine work its about the emotionality of the characters and the tonal feeling of the work rather than granular detail like which is what i think you're using as a metric , but i could be totally wrong

As much as I enjoyed it I still don’t feel like a sequel was needed. WB was gonna make it irregardless tho for money and I’m glad we got one half of the Wachowskis to do it in that case

This movie is hollow. It's Kanye's hologram of Kim's dad. You are being haunted. Please watch an actual piece of art that respects your time and intellect. Or at least treat it as the empty spectacle it is.

idk i just don't really get what his backstory would be

Only if the first 90% of it was his life inside the matrix that led to him waking up

No interest in his years lusting after Niobe and arguing strategy with the commander in the stenches of zion

That first half hour of boring meta commentary was pretty much Lana filling time and telling the audience why this movie was made with such a low effort

see im trying to talk to you like a person but you keep condescending to me, and telling me theres nothing there etc etc when youre initial post was that she's talking about suicidal ideation, so that right there is something. and furthermore youve never really elaborated on what they were saying about suicidal ideation just that its there. so im sorry but i don't agree with your arguments and i feel that they are not especially cogent
