And if mutants are an allegory for oppression of various forms, that’s still not an argument for race-swapping. It’s funny how you’re missing Scott’s clear allegory.

He suffers from an extreme disability and chronic illness he can’t control that forces him to be functionally blind and undergo severe headaches. It’s Xavier (also disabled) that connects the dots with the visor that enables combat, leadership and a shot at decent life. It overlaps with people out there who need medical aids to make it through their day decently and suffer from less visible disability. There’s a permanent barrier to his contact with the world and his relationships.

X-men was never this btw until Claremont popularized it since he’s the best X-men writer ever. People started running with this s*** afterward. This is a running theme in X-men but should not define them as it doesn’t really work in a greater universe

It’s a whole new movie, Hellfire is an essential storyline to the X-Men regardless if First Class already did it. Its not gonna be a carbon copy.

Correct but i think the framework was always there. Lee and Kirby just didn't realize what they were doing and ended giving up on what was their lowest-selling book. It works if you stick to a mutant-human divide and fears over X-gene's threat to humans. If you just throw mutants on the Avengers then no.

They were literally writing stories about bigotry, state-sanctioned oppression, and protecting people against a world that hated them because they were different at the height of several social justice movements. It just wasn't the masterplan Lee would later want people to believe. X-Men easily could have just been additional heroes like F4 and Avengers but nope for some reason they were specifically deemed outcasts and had this unique dynamic

Claremont took the pen, immediately saw the allegories, pieced it together with tweaks and far more diverse 2nd generation of mutants.
