they never do anything with ben...
tbh i always thought his stories wouldn't translate well to the screen, they need to be slow thoughtfully paced films and that's just not the mcu
edit: not a critique they're just not that
That's why I feel like a sequel would be really dope, I thought the 1st one did a good job melding the THINKING of the fantastic four with the ACTION of the fantastic four, where it's moreso about outplanning/thinking on their feet rather than brute force
A deep space/quantum dimension sequel with those guys would be great

i want to see anihillus and the negative zone on screen sooooo bad
So yeah I’m tired of the quirky MCU casting as of late. I’m even more tired of the “smart” take from the subset of fans who counter this ire with statements like “the way a character looks doesn’t matter only the acting does”. Nigga this isn’t based on regular literature we have established ideas on what these characters look like, even across different artists that span decades. And film is a visual medium. Why the hell should good acting and looking the part be treated as exclusive too? Like yall can’t get folks who are good actors that also look the part? If that was the case, we shouldn’t have RDJ/Evans/Hemsworth/Boseman/Jackson/Cumberbatch and I could go on honestly. But this new s***? Yeah it’s putting me off and I can confidently say I don’t think I’m the only one
Also f*** First Steps. I’m not being nice about that s*** no more. F*** the cast, f*** the cinematography, f*** the set locations, f*** the lifeless dialogue, f*** the lack of charisma or chemistry, f*** that boring and limp plot. Yes they’re good at the versions of the characters that we see on the screen, yes they’re good actors in general. But that’s not the fantastic four, I will never get behind that cast. Again, here, I see the play with the quirky casting
Same with Johnsson as T’Challa Jr. and please don’t hit me with the “he’s his son” s***, he’s supposed to fill the void of the original Black Panther and he does not evoke that. It’s like sure acting is ofc paramount, but it gets to a line with me when it comes to adapting these characters I read and love idc, after that line I either don’t care about the acting skills or that’s all that matters. In this case idc about his acting skills I don’t want that nigga as a supplement for T’Challa
And I’m wondering where the newfound quirky casting is coming from. Are they trying to get back into the good graces of RT so by doing quirky casting for major properties with “good actors” they appear to have improved taste or prestige? But at least there’s Sadie Sink and Ryan Gosling, two casting choices that feel like the pre-bad reviews Marvel who casted tastefully as well as fitting for the characters
I dont need to say much about the quirky decision to cast Tony Stark from your same universe as debut Doctor Doom. He’ll kill it for sure but that’s yet another example of the quirky s*** albeit in a different way. With that being said, please cast the X-Men close to the vest like with Sadie Sink. The X-Men is my favorite faction of the Marvel universe, I don’t wanna see none of that quirky casting bullshit; we got enough of it with Fox. And I know niggas probably not gonna like this but I had to say it

to your point, i actually wish they didn't take such a swing with the first movie. I feel like they were a little desperate with first steps, and immediately went for broke with galactus.
I think something smaller scale would've been a way better vehicle to get everyone on board with the characters and they could've saved the plot for a second movie that would've been received way better because we would've cared more about reed and sue having a kid etc.
But i'm firm in the idea that saving the world narratives don't work for first films in a superhero franchise because we have have no idea what the world is and have no investment in it being saved
It’s not perfect but I thought First Steps was good, about equal footing to Superman with Thunderbolts above them both
I saw enough from the cast to prove to me they can play the characters (only skeptical on Ebon)
Pedro is the best Reed we’ve seen in live action so far
Chill
Mac had me hollering

I see both sides as some want it to look similar or cast new fresh faces with actual chemistry and others want start power that brings in a crowd. End of the day I want the budget to go towards writing, cinematography and practical effects
I saw that video and was like "Really? Niggas want this guy to play a superhero?
"
Bro looks like a Reddit mod. F***ed up teeth too
Bro wants the Brian Singer movies where they cast according to who the most f***able twink with the waxed a****** is

The budget went straight to that 20 minute flight meeting Galactus sequence lol. Some scenes looked great while others like Ben talking to Natasha Lyonne character in the street looked pretty bad
Casting, other than Pedro, don’t the rest look the part? I mean Quinn could use a better wig.
I was never one to care about looks accuracy in fiction tho. Same way we’re giving the Odyssey a pass because it’s fictional characters. Every time a piece of fiction is adapted it’s just an iteration not a direct adaptation

You don't even know who Cooper Hoffman is
I don't care who plays a character in the washed superhero genre, trust

I can definitely understand why people say First Steps is slow. It’s almost like we’re watching a documentary on the team rather than being with them so it may not feel as personal
But as a big fan of the F4 IP I was just happy to see them on a space trotting adventure with a Galactus done right. And was very happy with the characterizations of the team

I don't need to know who he is. I don't see this guy as Cyclops
If you don't care, you don't need to be replying to me.
yeah exactly - it's just hard to leverage a 200 million dollar movie on a rock monster being sad
limited series would be dope for ben
Benny Boy is such a consistent pretentious troll who will enter threads about superhero movies and post some movie from 1944. Saying he doesn care about superhero movies at all then post in threads like this. s*** gets tiring. But I get it he knows he will get interactions from the bait
Underrated reason for MCU's fall out of grace with audiences is how they started to get their casts wrong
I don't need to know who he is. I don't see this guy as Cyclops

I care that people want movies to look like Abercrombie ads so I have to watch a generation of talentless hacks like Tom Holland and Sydney Sweeney get roles.
This isn't a dating app. It's an artform

who wud u have preferred as t'challa jr
I’m hoping Doomsday leads to a spike in F4 popularity
I am hoping it leads to them getting a second movie. The unfortunate part is it always felt like the first steps was just a random one off. Also while it used Galactus once I heard it wrapped up Galactus kind of neat I was bummed
