doesnt feel too bloated to mebut feels a bit clumsily assembled...
i had a good time but feel like this could've been a lot better
This how i feel too. 7/10 for me, it was fun

i feel kinda bummed and surprised marvel/sony has made so many movies that have missed the mark kinda badly or with obvious aspects that aren't working and they're kinda just like w/e?
we have had so many good superhero movies in the early aughts and that tones kinda gone by the wayside.
Part of me thinks theres a large gap in filmmaking craft/aesthetic quality, tenor or script/dialogue but I also wonder if that tone was in the afterglow of 9/11 and our weaponry say those norton hulk movies or even nolans batman with the stockpile of weaponry etc.
i know spiderman is an annoying character and quippy but there was something special about those raimi movies that at least took themselves seriously and had him in actual conflict each movie while dealing with the adaption challenges from the comics..
i think one think I've really had issue with hollands run is that its spiderman by committee OD and the stakes never seem high, he never feels afraid? Like when people remark about Raimis execution something that comes up is how well he shows peter's fear of the villains and by extension we're afraid of him. By contrast we don't get much...violence and fear in these holland spiderman movies. it all just feels like mischief. One of the most enjoyable moments in NWH was when Tom spidersense went off when he figured out what norman was doing. It just feels crazy we've gotten such great highs and they've really missed the mark so much. There's so much great material to mine from the comics and even some of the animated adaptations.
I know this is a big long and the tooth and I still had fun bit it felt like these have become a bit sanitized clumsily executed movies when the comics theyre based on are often really well done and even previous movies are a lot more cleanly executed and compelling
Got you fam. You see it?
hell yea saw it friday in dolby. Had a great time even if i'm littering this and the spoiler thread with my criticism and thoughts about it not quite hitting the mark. I really have a soft spot for the raimi trilogy but honestly most superhero movies that have stakes and don't hold back just cus its pg-13. especially since peter is a character while, often outsmarts his villains, also gets his ass kicked lol.
You will probably have fun!!

but maybe your nostalgia lens isn’t allowing you to see that Tom’s character is clearly scared but uses humor and the “power of friendship” to mask that fear until this movie won’t allow him to keep minimizing his fears any longer and fully embrace the extent of his powers and show how truly dangerous spiderman can be once he stops messing around? maybe in this universe he just hasn’t faced anyone genuinely scary enough to bring it out of him, he wasn’t even taking Thanos seriously lol. they made Tobey a b**** off rip lmao

this tbh. i feel like this movie was the first time i saw Holland’s peter truly scared
I can’t help but think some people are preventing themselves from enjoying MCU Spiderman because they are constantly comparing him to the Raimi adaptation

Which is funny because these movies aren't remakes of those, it's a new adaptation of shared source material. Sometimes I feel like people don't look at these movies like that and instead act like these and Andrew's movies are drawing from Raimi's stories which couldn't be farther from the truth.
news....podcast...what are we doing here
Idk anymore
so was the hulk movie that was rumored pretty much never happening right
its not fair man we deserve something

ohhhhhh very possible. i more so meant scared of the villains but maybe its fair he generally is and has a good social circle to diffuse that stuff? im totally with you on the masking as a possibility. The fights just often feel like they have no stakes! I will say i should probably rewatch the holland movies.
I think part of tobey's fear is on top of the general anxiety he has about keeping his identity a secret. And the fact we get to see the villains get some gruesome kills.
i think holland excels in some aspects but like the entire premise of nwh was him doing something super dumb and selfish against strange's advice which seems...pointless? Kinda makes him less endearing even though his version of peter has some charm. But i do like how he performs in the role because those parts of his character aren't always in the other iterations (Which is hard because the comic is so old).

They should just pay universal lol . S*** I would have preferred hulk gets a full storyline in this even if it cut Sadie and punisher time

he too loud about Israel they gotta shut him up as much as possible

i've enjoy these plenty and had a great time save for some things. i just think as films its hard not to compare the craft, execution and portrayal of the character.
Like I don't necessarily want all the same stuff but sometimes these fall flat in ways that the others don't. its easy to make the comparisons when we have movies, tv shows, and comics to pull from.
I find some dissatisfaction with aspects of the plot or character development but it's p easy (or cheap to others) to elaborate and use the other versions as a bench mark for an execution of a Type of adaptation. Like spiderman 94 does a great job to but also changes things from the source material (which is going to happen and become source material for others down the line).
Making these movies spiderman by committee buddy adventures just changes the dynamic of the characters traits that I find can make him less compelling because on a base level the tension around having a secret identity is gone. But its not really replaced with anything quite as interesting or the remaining tension in trying to balance the rest of his life doesn't really seem there...
