Jul 31got back from a late night showing at 2 am so I cooked my thoughts up this morning.
dare I say, the best of the live-action Holland movies? Destin Daniel Cretton injects a grounded, more mature tone into the franchise, which I feel was refreshing after the multiversal shenanigans of No Way Home. you can feel the action more viscerally in the fight scenes and NYC comes alive throught the cinematography and the soundtrack. Tom Holland has grown so much, both as an actor and in the role of Spider-Man, and this was his most real and emotional portrayal yet, as Peter learns to embrace both sides of who he is instead of letting them compete with each other. the film also weaves both new and familiar MCU characters into Peter’s story without ever taking away from it. for the first time in this iteration of Spider-Man, I felt more connected to Peter Parker than I ever did in the Watts trilogy, and that’s the biggest compliment I can give it.

Letterboxd suffers from immediacy bias often with standout or crowd pleasing films. I distinctly remember NWH also starting out at a 4.2 before climbing down over a period
Homecoming was before the platforms boom so most people were judging after feelings already settled in.

If you swapped Jean with Mr. Negative I wonder how different the reception of the movie would be from people who hate the inclusion of Grey and setting up the X-Men?
That easily would have made the film better
