He's right though, IMAX isn't a signifier of quality whatsoever, it's basically exclusive to blockbusters which can range from incredible like Dune Part Two to terrible like Fast X

    Fast X is cinema.

You think Minions & Monsters qualifies as greatness then?

I'm just saying that IMAX isn't some standard bearer for quality. I watched Madame Web in IMAX

It's just the top PLF that has special cameras and filmmakers (usually great ones) choose to make their films formatted for it

I reckon if those moves were released at the same time as a Nolan or Denis film those moves wouldn’t be shown in IMAX

Yeah but only because Nolan and Denis have priority, no other reason

I don’t understand why no one is talking about no IMAX for neither Spider-Man nor Doomsday

    Like…that’s not insane to people?

they're both getting IMAX releases in some international markets, odyssey and dune just got first dibs in the west honestly crazy because both movies are still filming for imax

    Mr America

I wonder why Nolan has so much pull. Isn’t he like the only director with full creative control as well?

because he consistently puts out movies that are critically acclaimed and smash at the box office, fkn oppenheimer of all films almost touched a billy. man has a blank cheque for life

Yes, but also because they make big-budget blockbusters that make a lot of money lmao

If nobody saw these Nolan or Denis movies, they wouldn't get priority

Well, right. Those contracts are drawn up in advance and the IMAX corporation prefers to have filmmakers that will draw an audience use the format.

It's not about quality to the people who make the contracts, it's about the money. Nolan and Denis are draws. The contracts for The Odyssey and Dune were likely made before Spider-Man and Avengers settled on their dates.

If Transformers movies were still making money hand over fist they would probably get IMAX priority over say an original Pixar movie.

Yeah I was going to say this but didn’t want to hurt them . With so little of it filmed in iMax and how bad the cgi looks to my eyes Dolby is fine . I will still see the memes and aura moments . They aren’t the best at sound , shots or anything . Only possible benefit is if the theater fits more people more hyped crowd

  • Laced

You misunderstand me, I'm saying more movies should be shot in IMAX in general. Yes it's more expensive but it would make for a better experience overall. I don't get the purist/snob perspective of only reversing IMAX privileges for certain "higher caliber" films

If you have a reason to use IMAX you should. Every movie doesn't have a reason. We need more format types to draw viewers in alongside the right films utilizing IMAX to its advantage beyond pricey tickets for box office revenue.

When theatrical experience was tested with the rise of TV in the 50s studios came up with things like Cinemascope, vistavision, utilized technicolor more and other wide and large formats to add to the spectacle.

Its not really about reserving privileges. There's a myriad of cameras, film types, and premium experiences to hone in on. Most audiences don't watch stuff like Spider-Man on IMAX anyways.

90% of films released in IMAX are not filmed with actual IMAX cameras lmao

ODYESSY IS FILMED 100% in imax so you will give exclusivity to it in this case . Where in my post do I talk about all films . I’m talking this specific situation

  • MCU decided to release its two biggest films at the same time 2 of the only films shot in IMAX were also releasing. We're lucky if we 2 IMAX 70mm releases in a year

Literally any other release window this year and they'd have their case to push others out or split screens. They chose the worst possible ones to compete against, who don't fear going up against Disney/Sony.

  • Oblivion X

A shift from the usual mcu spiderman tone and story structures.

i dont think you’ll ever get that with MCU Spidey, only with Sony

  • If a movie isn't using the expanded aspect ratio I'll likely prefer to see it in Dolby. I'll do IMAX in those cases if I can't find a better time.

Like I saw Crime 101 in IMAX last month and I could've seen that s*** in Dolby and it wouldn't have made a difference. Hell, I would have been in a more comfortable seat.

I mean for me I have A-List so I go see things in IMAX or Dolby primarily unless a movie isn't in those formats or I miss them in that first weekend

  • Mar 18

You can tell when something is filmed in imax. IMAX as a company will prioritize those movies . Nolan sold out imax opening weekend a year in advanced as spider man fans got a day or two second clips

If spider man wanted imax it should have spaced out better

    I'm aware of that

And you responded to a post saying there's no point in seeing an MCU film in IMAX, and your reasoning was that is because it's not entirely filmed with actual IMAX cameras... but that applies to like 90% of films released in IMAX
