i was born at the right time
hopefully tobey teach tom how to throw hands in nwh
You dorks care way too much about a villain’s motivations being connected to Stark
Mr stark didn't like me waaaaaagh
Yes but no. His question actually raises a great point about the disconnect in how fans perceive the Spider-Man mythos as opposed to the general public (though not as big of a disconnect as is with Superman).
If we look at Batman, sure his villains are all pretty popular and iconic but no matter what - the Joker is clear cut as THE guy above them all. With Spidey it’s a bit different. To us super fans, we know Goblin is THE guy above the rest but because of how Spidey’s mythos have been presented in mainstream media, Goblin/Venom/Doc Ock are relatively in the same echelon for the general public when it comes to who his main villain is
Take into account that Venom is the most recognized and beloved Marvel villain ever. So pretty much it’s a case of the popularity levels irl not matching the levels of importance in the established canon, ie Spidey himself being the most popular and beloved Marvel character despite not being THE top guy in the established canon
I feel like Goblin and Venom get more mainstream representation than Doc Ock though

Yeah for sure
I’d argue Venom is the most recognizable Marvel/DC villain after the Joker
hes definitely up there

But that's fan favoritism. Lex Luthor is Superman's arch enemy even if - to many - he's not hyped/beloved the same way other DC villains are.
It doesn't matter what mainstream peeps think honestly. It's just disappointing we haven't gotten as much exploration of the Osborns due to all the reboots and the like.
Green Goblin is the villain to Spider-Man and in a lot of ways he represents everything the character is not.

This is true, but the fan favoritism is why there’s confusion about who the archnemesis is to the casual fan
I’d argue Venom is the most recognizable Marvel/DC villain after the Joker
I feel like Magneto is somewhere on that list too
Yeah Venom is essentially his Two Face
An argument could be made that Venom is also like Spider-Man's Ra's al Ghul in most comics, I'd say. Same powers/stuff, different ways about what they do, and another path he could have taken but chose to avoid, etc.
The Ultimate universe did a good job turning him into Two-Face though - making him the friend that Peter failed to help in time.
I feel like Magneto is somewhere on that list too
Top five definitely. If 1 is Joker and 2 is Venom, who y’all got for 3-5?
This is true, but the fan favoritism is why there’s confusion about who the archnemesis is to the casual fan
Yeah, but fans shouldn't dictate the way things are imo
Lol general audience prolly think Lex is a Batman villain
Nah Lex is all over Superman media, I've heard people actually use Lex as a reason to why they think Superman is wack cuz they be like "he be losing to a bald rich nigga with kryptonite" when Supes got one of the best rogues galleries of all time

Yep. Venom's popularity doesn't make him the arch enemy the way Lex being unpopular doesn't NOT make him Supes' arch enemy.

You think Lex is unpopular?
Top five definitely. If 1 is Joker and 2 is Venom, who y’all got for 3-5?
1. Joker
2. Venom
3. Lex Luthor
4. Magneto
5. Part of me wanna say Catwoman, another part of me wanna say Green Goblin or Dr. Doom for some reason
Yeah, but fans shouldn't dictate the way things are imo
When it comes to the whole archnemesis thing definitely, that’s 100% about who affects the hero’s life most drastically
And no villain affects Peter Parker more than Norman
1. Joker
2. Venom
3. Lex Luthor
4. Magneto
5. Part of me wanna say Catwoman, another part of me wanna say Green Goblin or Dr. Doom for some reason
I got Catwoman in there too
Yep. Venom's popularity doesn't make him the arch enemy the way Lex being unpopular doesn't NOT make him Supes' arch enemy.
At this point even though Venom is an adversary I kinda don't consider him a straight up Spiderman villain, he kinda has his own mini rogues gallery lol
This is true, but the fan favoritism is why there’s confusion about who the archnemesis is to the casual fan
I always thought green goblin was the main bad guy growing up watching the 90s Spiderman cartoon. It got kinda muddle with over the years how it's shifted with Disney marvel though.
Last time I though green goblin 100% first was the spectacular Spiderman cartoon.
Now that I think about it, Norman has consistently done way more f***ed up s*** to Peter than Joker has to Bruce
Ayo Norman is a nasty nigga. Marvel writers get into a certain bag when writing stories with him. He is VILE
I’d argue Venom is the most recognizable Marvel/DC villain after the Joker
If you go all ages..they're all Batman villains
Joker
Catwoman
Poison Ivy
Penguin
Riddler
Most Americans age 16-65 could name every one of these villains just off a picture. Moreso than I think you could say about Lex, Magneto, Venom, or anyone else.
