Saw it again, and I think the first like 30 minutes of this is promising as f***.
It just doesn't develop enough after that tho. I want more for Johnny Storm.

It's no wonder the marketing included posters like this

This is the real draw. This is the best character in the movie.

I do agree I wish we got to spend more time in the world and it’s extremely disappointing that sequels will most likely take place in the main MCU universe

You know. I’m a huge mcu fan and have watched em all in theaters and damn near enjoy all of them but something about this one feels…empty? Like idk how to explain it but this movie really feels like it’s just missing so much.
Preferred all the phase 5 movies to this one other than cap America maybe

    Loved it (capeshit curve)

I have minor issues, but they don’t ruin my enjoyment of this

Probably the best MCU movie since Shang-Chi tbh.

Pacing was surprisingly brisk as well, and cast was A-1.
    Honestly, prefer it to Superman.

First Steps finally delivers on the promise of the Fantastic Four on film. A group of explorers who happen to get super powers and are part of the same family. This, like Superman, is very comic booky and I love that the most about it. The production design was immaculate. I loved all the sets, costumes, and just the world that this film inhabits.

This is probably the best well rounded cast playing the Four we’ve ever had. Pedro Pascal totally embodies the smartest man in the world whose intellect can get in his way. Vanessa Kirby’s Sue was a great leader, for the team, and the world even. Johnny was actually given something to do in film and that was one of my highlights of the film. Although Ebon’s Ben Grimm was portrayed well, I think the character was a little underserved. The Silver Surfer was done well, but I think Galactus was incredible.

The only issue I kind of have is that I do feel like it was chopped up in places. This movie could’ve been at least 15 minutes longer. The second act of the film was jaw dropping, I partially hoped that we got more like that, but I’m not entirely mad that we didn’t.

I hope this world is the basis for what the post Secret Wars MCU will be.

    4.5/5

I have Superman ever so slightly over this, but I have a much more emotional connection to that character

    This worth it in imax?

    Yes, especially for Galactus

  • People complain about the lack of action, but the second act dealing with them problem solving was some of my favorite stuff

I really did like the pacing of the movie but at the same time do want to see the missing s*** they cut out.

Might have to see it again

Seeing all these good reviews makes me feel crazy. It felt like I watched a power rangers episode, but I’m glad others are getting something from this movie.

What were you expecting man? A 1990 Post Modernist Slovakian satire with a 5thou bucks budget?

Character depth, relationship dynamics, team chemistry. The movie had a by the numbers feel to me. Not tryna be a downer but I just expected more. Just my opinion.

  • Looking like it might come in slightly under 120m now. A little surprised since that RT audience score has held pretty well.

I honestly don’t think so. I don’t think this F4 will be folded into the mainline MCU timeline post-Secret Wars. What reasoning would there be for them to leave their world? I thought they would be forced out by the end of this movie, but that’s not what ends up happening.

I think they end up returning to 828 after Secret Wars, and we get sequels on 828, or we straight up don’t get any sequels to this film at all, and First Steps-Doomsday-Secret Wars acts as the faux F4 MCU Trilogy

As someone who enjoyed both this and Superman, I’m genuinely puzzled by people liking one but not the other, or saying that F4 feels like another by-the-numbers MCU flick. If either one of them feels like standard MCU fare, it’s Superman

I never mentioned it being like another mcu flick. I meant by the numbers in general. I love the mcu and this movie just didn’t do it for me. That’s all.
