i see that you already prepared for superman legacy to underperform
Don’t start.
Look up how many people have Superman tattoos for life man
All 40+ year old white men
For the tenth time, yes he is, he is popular.
But, he is not as popular as he used to be
Cope
Cope
Some of y’all can’t read apparently, nobody said he wasn’t popular
For the tenth time, yes he is, he is popular.
But, he is not as popular as he used to be
“ not as popular as he used to be”
Your dumbass didn’t read. Mjpplus post at all and he even gave you a TLDR
That’s just not true, but okay
Removing live action movies explain to me how Iron Man is bigger than Superman culturally
Removing live action movies explain to me how Iron Man is bigger than Superman culturally
He can’t man leave it alone
You keep talking about reception, that has nothing to do with popularity
Tony Stark is 100% a more culturally popular character in the 21st Century than Superman is, it’s not even close
“ not as popular as he used to be”
Your dumbass didn’t read. Mjpplus post at all and he even gave you a TLDR
English please?
This isn’t true when the MCU’s only real bomb in 15 years is The Marvels, and that wasn’t the first MCU to be received poorly
Quality still matters and bombs aren't necessarily defined as the raw dollar amount a film makes, but rather what it makes in comparison to its budget. This is why a film like Longlegs is being seen as such as success but its only made $58 million as of today.

Their first real hint at trouble was Eternals. Sure, some Phase 1 movies didn't crack 400 million but those were still movies that were testing the waters of the market. Eternals was a film that was Marvel's first one to get a rotten RT score. That reflected in its box office.
Shang-Chi, the movie that came out 2 months earlier and still made more money than Eternals which was supposed to be this big emotional arthouse epic based on the promotion. That s*** was supposed to be BIG. Black Widow made $20 million less than Eternals, so on paper it looks worse right? You then have to account for the fact that it was also on Disney+ day 1. Without that Black Widow probably would've cracked $500 million. Not to mention, Venom 2 which came out only a month before Eternals, cracked $500 million and broke the record for highest October opening.
Then No Way Home comes out, breaks records. Then Multiverse of Madness, even Love & Thunder did really well. Then Wakanda Forever took a dip in box office in comparison to the first. Not totally unexpected but people would've thought ti would do the same if not better for a movie that doubles as a Chadwick Boseman tribute. Meanwhile in the background of all these movies coming out, you have Disney+ putting out show after show after show. I s*** you not 2021 and 2022 were non f***ing stop Marvel. And personal opinion aside, they were not all received well. She-Hulk was kind of hated, Ms. Marvel was looked at as forgettable, Moon Knight was seen as a disappointment. So combine the not so great reception of the films and the not so great reception of the shows, and the problem is building.
Then we get to Ant-Man Quantumania. The movie that was billed to be the thing that sets the Multiverse Saga on it's path by introducing Kang, the big bad for the rest of the saga into film. The reviews came out, and it was not good. Somehow, due to its perceived importance at the time, it opened to over $100 million. For Ant-Man? That's great. However, when your move costs and upwards of $325 million, you need to make a lot more than that. The poor reception of the film slashed it's legs and it only ended up making $476 million. Guardians 3, seen as a return to form, made only about $20 million less than Guardians 2 which was released during peak Marvel. The reception of the films and TV shows impact each other. If you are served a bad product, why would you go back? This is why so many people have checked out at this point.
Following Guardians you have the 1-2 punch of the terrible Secret Invasion show and the writers and actors strikes. The Marvels comes out to a less than stellar reception. That, plus the inability of the cast to promote the movie because of the strikes, as well as the poor reception of a lot of other Marvel projects in the last year, result in Marvel's first true bomb.
It was a snowball of poor reception that resulted in the entire conversation of Marvel is dying.

Superman 1 made $300 million, the less positively received Superman 2 made $190 million, the poorly received Superman 3 made only $80 million, the even worse Superman 4 only made $36.7 million dollars. Same can be said about Superman's DCEU appearances. After BvS (which is more of a crossover film) each one made less than the last. The DCEU was impacted so badly that a movie that was received well, The Suicide Squad, couldn't even crack $200 million (partially due to it also being on HBO Max but Dune was also on it day 1 and ended up making $400 million).
The 4th Superman movie only made 10% of what the first one did. Why? The quality wasn't consistent. Marvel kept the quality factor up and told a multi faceted story up until Endgame that the whole world was into. With Marvel's overall dip in quality and lack of focus, they lost people.
Quality matters. If you bring a good string of movies, the audience will build no matter who the movie stars or is about. That is franchise filmmaking 101.

Let's go back to the MCU then:

Their first real hint at trouble was Eternals. Sure, some Phase 1 movies didn't crack 400 million but those were still movies that were testing the waters of the market. Eternals was a film that was Marvel's first one to get a rotten RT score. That reflected in its box office.

To connect this back to Superman:
