Haven’t seen the movie yet. But seeing people react negatively to Timmys confidence in himself and his craft just screams insecurity
Not everyone finds cockiness charming tbf
It was warranted in this case though

There's a difference between confidence and cockiness
josh is genuinely one of the greatest filmmakers ever maybe
One of the best at this specific style of film sure
Thoughts on Tarantino’s 10 movie rule?
He’s generally right that filmmakers do fall off after their first 10 films
99% of filmmakers ain’t Scorsese or Spielberg or Clint

Do you think he could make quality after 10 though? Hope he breaks it’s personally and makes more than 10.

He 100% could
Big reason why most filmmakers don’t make it to 10 has to do a lot with not being bankable enough, getting f***ed over on projects falling thru, still riding on the wave of past hits cuz the new ones aren’t connecting with modern audiences, etc.
But he’s literally in one of the best positions any filmmaker could be in and just dropped one of his best films ever. I think he could keep going but also I get it if he don’t wanna be working in his 70s and 80s.
The one thing is I’m sure the 10 film rule for him has played a big part in really dialing down on making sure he’s making the best s*** he possibly could
yeah it’s time to have an uncomfortable conversation about timothèe
The only real movie star of this new gen of actors
If the co-directorials count (which I’m inclined to think do because again I think Josh and Ronald Bronstein are huge majority make up of the DNA here), Good Time —> Uncut Gems —> Marty Supreme could be the best 3 film run of the 21st century

nothing against benny obviously but these solo/separate projects do a hard job of arguing with your post.
Josh + Bronstein goated. Seems these guys were behind a lot of the juice even back then from impression I get from their interviews together. Josh was so brazen in everything he said hard to see he wasn't the architect for a lot of their film's absurdities, even as far back as Heaven Knows What

Not even the best 3 film run of the 21st century by a directing duo and that's to say nothing of some of the great runs of solo directors

just got out of my showing and this is currently ranked as my fourth favorite movie of the year.
this feels like Timothée’s The Wolf of Wall Street moment—without question the finest performance I’ve seen from him, bar none. the film takes you to places you’d never expect a ping-pong movie to go, and had me surprised at every turn. the supporting performances from Odessa A’zion, Tyler Okonma, & Gwyneth Paltrow were electric, and elevated the film to even greater heights. pair all of that with cinematography that perfectly captures New York in the fifties and a remarkable retro futuristic score that evokes the spirit of late ’80s blockbusters, the result is truly something special and deserves to be experienced in theaters.
10/10
