I want to start boxing . Just so I know how to fight. Just in case. I can’t fold if s*** go down you know? Plus it’ll be another great fitness endeavor for me , any one in the Tampa Bay Area ,with recommendations for gyms?
S*** fighting is actually kinda stupid now that I think about it. Combat sports is one thing but street fights f***. There unnecessarily dangerous.
It's unnecessary most the time. Dude's always have something to prove and like ppl have said before, if they get insulted, you might get jumped later on.
Unless you're put into a situation where you need to react immediately (someone innocent is being physically harassed) then it just isn't worth it. Plus you never know who's carrying
Im 5’10 slim-stockyish build and defensive with fairly quick reflexes , but pretty short arm length . Would Muay Thai be effective for me ? Or should I eye up a different art form
a bunch of little ass thai people are nasty with that s***, you'll be aight lmao. Arm reach isn't as important like boxing since there's a lot more tools. If you don't got baby legs you'll be fine. It's probably one of the better ones for you honestly.
Not gonna lie the pso-rite actually feels good but a massage ball probably does the job
Fighting as a sport honestly keeps you so level headed and grounded its crazy
Lost braloserls notwithstanding

It's why I have second thoughts about doing kickboxing for fun. It's great to train but what am I even sparring for?
I mainly grapple now but even then, like I said before, everyone I know has their little list of injuries that are built up over time
But yeah I love the feeling it gives and the vibes are always good around my circles
Thoughts on Krav Maga for self defense purposes? I don't think the gym I'm going to offers Muay Thai

Yeah those little injuries are part of the game unfortunately. But there’s ways to set yourself up for sustainability. Just dont go too hard or overstep your boundaries.
I’m no expert btw thats been my homies advice

I’ve never done Krav Maga but I heard its good for self-defense. Not self-defense like you’re gonna beat up a squad of attackers tho, more like self-defense in that you can get a few blocks and counters in and then run away.
Does your gym offer kickboxing?
Wish I had a heavy bag at my house. My kicks need work, feel like I never pivot or turn my hips enough.

lots of mcdojos and phony gyms doing that s***. just beware and do your own research

Yeah, there is kickboxing. I'm not sure if it does offer Muay Thai, I don't see it under the programs but it is listed under the coaches. What's making alarm bells ring for me though is that there's just one guy listed under a bunch of different styles, like how does he have time to give all these classes

Dude has had success landing roles in movies and s*** and this place is like a 5 minute walk from me
Gonna call them and check out a free lesson
EDIT: Nvm, Muaythai was just under the kickboxing tab. I'm an idiot

No offense cause I don't know the coach and I could be wrong but that s*** looks funky lmao. I tried looking up the guy too and he doesn't have any valid fight information or proof of credibility. He's the BJJ, Kickboxing, thai, karate, Krav Maga, boxing coach who also does bodybuilding and stunt work? I never seen the guy move so I can't say anything but you ever actually spar the guy? This sounds like a McDojo from first glance.

Yeah, s*** is mad suspicious to me
Couldn't even call the number, had to message on Whatsapp
The guy still has to get back to me about when and where classes are even though I messaged him like 2 weeks ago
May have to go to another place that I initially dismissed because its further and more expensive

I found that guys instagram and found a video of him hitting the bag and honestly I'd would try to the free class but if you don't light spar him or watch him light spar I'd just dip. That s*** looked iffy.

Thanks for trying to find out more about him for me
Yeah, alarm bells are ringing for me, the fact that the guy wouldn't even get back to me is just unprofessional. The main reason I wanted that dojo was because it was a 5 minute walk away from me on Google maps but when we spoke on Whatsapp, he said its in an area that's about a 20 minute drive
Just more and more reasons to go somewhere else
