I didnt think id like the 24 racers but i think it actually helps. The casuals having more targets to waste their items on allowing me to zoom by.

Im doing time trials to play the 3 lap track layouts, see what they're like, and i have to say so many of these are kinda peak. Even the retro tracks usually have a lot more work dome on them than past games. Mushroom cup might be the best in the series. Need an update with easy to access classic mode

It's amazing how much love they put into the tracks. Mario Kart World easily has the best maps in the entire series

Which is exactly why the races should just be the long section and three laps of the track.

Nintendo even always first advertised the game as traveling to the track.

Who knew they would count that as a lap though.

This game is going to be exactly like Crash Team Racing where if you actually want to win; you have to learn the crazy shortcuts because they're not impossible for the average player.

Damn i kinda dislike having 24 players in online vs. Too chaotic, which can work in knock-out tour since its a battle royale and the roads are mostly straight, keeps tension high, but in actual tracks with curves and shortcuts and more narrow roads it leads to disaster. I'd like an option for 12 player lobbies, or maybe i need to get better idk

yea. it's tough because there isn't a perfect solution without splitting up online vs.

the way I see it is:

12 player online vs should exist and it should be with only 3 lap standard courses. no connector courses. this is what everyone is asking for. this would be Traditional Vs Mode.

but 24 player online vs should still exist and it should work the way it works now with the connector courses, or maybe even go like this: 1 lap of a course, then a connector course (serving as lap 2), then 1 lap of the course you arrive at. this would be Connector Vs Mode

Can’t get over how bad MK’s online is with wanting to play with friends. Even when you’re in a game chat together

Friend rooms are great for playing with friends and coms

For vs racing, you have to follow your friend into their room. I get that queuing with a friend remotely would be cool but this doesn’t bother me much. It was the same in Mario kart 8.

For knockout tour, not being able to play with online friends stinks. I understand why there aren’t “rooms” that stay in tact like in versus mode but they should come up with a solution for this.

Yeah that’s the issue. Took us 15mins to get into the same game lobby last night.

For years in development they’d of made a better online experience, and not something that’s reminiscent of the Wii U days.

How knockout isn’t for friends either is beyond me

it's because knockout doesn't have "rooms" that stay in tact. knockout matches are so long that the first several waves of eliminations are not expected to wait another 10+ minutes for the match to finish. so the room only exists in the time between when the first person joins and the match starts. the eliminated participants get put back out into a new match, they don't stay with the same group.

there are ways you could still join a match with a friend so I'm not saying this is unsolvable but this is why you cant join your friend in a knockout room like you can in versus mode

The thing i hate about free roam is it seems they doing anything not to let you enjoy It. Map is useless, you can't pinpoint s***, making the telescope useless cause while it helps you find out secrets, i'll forget where they at the Moment i get back to driving, there's no icons to show where you found s***, goddamn why did they make it like this. A simple ui/ux improvement would make this mode 100 times better. Its fun to drive around with all those great scenarios, exploring the tracks, doing the admittedly varied missions, unlocking skins, all while listening to a top tier Nintendo soundtrack, but those annoyances always there to ruin the vibes. S*** pmo

Also a bummer that I can’t free roam with friends or other players unless it’s while we’re waiting for an online match to start. I should be able to just encounter other players or AT LEAST link up with friends in free roam, exploring together, taking pictures and chatting with the, I dunno, GAMECHAT feature perhaps Nintendo?

You might be right and that's what I got from the Directs but I thought I read or saw somewhere that you couldn't free roam online with friends, but according to Google AI you can do it this way:

It seems to work tbh. I didn't invite any friends but I created a room online and while waiting for friends/players to join I was able to free roam, so as friends join the room we should be able to roam together until I decide to start an actual race.

Knockout Tour rubberbanding is crazy s***. I saw an NPC take a shroomless shortcut and I could not catch up.

Just got my first 3 star. Speed is the move. Used Bowser and I was so far ahead a blue shell didn't matter.

Damn. They really f***ed the online. Lobbies don't fill up properly.

for knockout tour they fill up really well from my experience

for racing they are not always too full but this is arguably a good thing given that a lot of my races have ended up being 11 or 12 racers and that is a more ideal amount than 24 racers (Arguably)
