And, I don't feel hopeless about it at all. I feel very excited for this season. I've said that a few times now. I'm perfectly fine with prioritizing De Jong and making some smaller-scale, smarter signings around him.

Tbh ETH does need players who will understand his system and then the whole team can transition into it.

So it does make sense for him to sign former players and Dutch players who he knows. In the end it’s who he wants and as long as the manager is getting targets that he feels will benefit the team. Then it’s a good thing.

Because like @DwindlingSun said, in the past we’ve signed good or talented players with no real insight into using them properly. No proper vision under the previous coach

Coach will have huge effect tbh, I think EtH can get much more out of these players than our previous coaches and he is the type of coach that can teach and improve a player. Something we haven’t had for ages. So even if we don’t get many signings in I think we’ll still do better than we did before.

Think of it like this; if Ole or Rangnick had been coach of Ajax we would probably have never heard of Frenkie De Jong, De Ligt, Ziyech, Antony, Timber, Mazrouai, Gravenberch and Martinez. Or at least not in the same way. In the 6 to 7 years before he came to Ajax they produced so few big names while still having a lot of talented players constantly in the squad. That’s why I’m still optimistic about next season tbh.

I’m not not optimistic of the players I’m as excited as you are. However there is a pattern of bad transfer dealings and this fits with the exact same scenario we face with every time we get a new coach. It’s not who we get it’s how we get them which has shown to not only effect the team in the short-term.
