This is almost entirely conjecture. I know you’re a big fan of the man, but let’s call a spade a spade and admit that the manager isn’t at the requisite level. We were all mostly duped by a CL performance from over 4 seasons ago.

With all due respect to the man, INEOS taking any credence in Sir Alex’s views other than passing observations would be at their folly. Also, there’s nothing to suggest Sir Alex still remains a fan — or even to what extent he was initially — of ten Hag.

Not sacking an underperforming manager because the options aren’t what you want is one of the weakest argument possible — it lends to the point that the current guy hasn’t a scoobert and he remains almost entirely due to fear of the unknown.

And, just generally, how can anyone watch this midfield chasm he actively sets up every week; the routine cutbacks that we concede invariably every game; the inability to see out matches etc. week in week out and still suggest the manager is not a fundamental issue here?

Those are tactical and managerial concerns that haven’t been remedied since September — fundamental tactical flaws which have less to do with player quality, which is what most of those still with hope in the man tend to speak of.

Ineos, with all their current moves, are essentially actively saying that the club has been structured poorly and set up to fail. Additionally every report seems to say thay they feel the squad is not at the requisite level and needs major reshaping.

If they believe both those things to be true, then I can absolutely believe there's room from their perspective to say 'lets give Ten Hag time and the proper support we feel he has been deprived of'.

I think he's a good manager. Mistakes have been made, there's been challenges, but fundamentally I fully believe he's very capable - and has the capable character.

On Sir Alex this is a man who's always called for patience - he personally knows how important that is given his early experience here. He's been very complimentary of Ten Hag in all past comments. Ineos didn't need to sit at games with Sir Alex and David Gill alongside. To me it's a pretty clear and public indicator they are taking their input. Murtough wasn't the guy sat with them nor was Fletcher, etc.

Ineos could sack Ten Hag and go get De Zerbi let's say. A manager who's doing well but again pretty unproven - you could well find yourself in exactly the same situation a year or so from now.

Where Ten Hag has an advantage is that he has 6 months to actively engage with Ineos, share his ideas, be receptive to theirs, prove to them he's dedicated and motivated and compatible with the structure they are building and aligned with their principle for United. That's a big big advantage where there isn't a clear heavy hitter potential manager. Anyone Ineos would potentially bring in is going to have question marks. So to me, Ineos would ask themselves, why not stick with the guy who yes has question marks, but who you have built up a working relationship with and trust and alignment. And the guy who yes has had a bad season but we acknowledge there's big problems with the club and we will take into account that he had a good first season and is still well respected by the senior figures who's opinions we are listening to.

I believe that unless the next few months are absolutely disastrous, or unless Zidane or Pep suddenly wants to come to United, or Ten Hag just turns into an absolute idiot in meetings, Ineos will view sticking with Ten Hag as the reasonable option.
