finished last thursday and let it marinate, phenomenal ending
Not really ihave more pessimistic view Don doesn’t truly find reform that he so desperately was looking for it would never have worked in the end anyway
Wasn’t the ending scene so poignant with Don. I get tears everytime. So powerful
Very anticlimactic I actually did not know what to think of the ending at first but it’s actually like you could see it coming from a mile away Don wasn’t meant for the happy ending even it make seem like it
I never got the criticism of some ppl saying how the characters didn’t have any character dev I remember ppl complaining they were always the same every season I don’t think that was the point the writers were trying to make anyways these were grown ass ppl who are pretty solidified at this juncture in their lives not sure what they expected them to become

The last call between peggy and don man...

In the end he will always be an ad man
Midway thru season 4 in my rewatch, I think I’ve come to the conclusion that my favorite season is whatever season I’m watching.

It’s not a “happy ending” for Don, per se, it’s him coming to terms with who he is & making peace with that. John Hamm himself said “that tiger isn’t changing his stripes,” after the series finale. After the fridge scene with the man talking about depression & not knowing what love is , it made Don realize he wasn’t alone & others experience this as well, and it was very cathartic for him.
And by this time Don had already shedded his Don Draper persona by giving away the Cadillac to the kid, which is why you see him smiling at the end of the second episode. He was tired of running and after those ppl beat him with a book they kept saying we don’t know who you are mister and it made Don finally realize he cannot carry on lying about he is is anymore
So those two pieces wrapped up Don very nicely imo

it was so deep man. He was so tired of lying & just wanted someone relatively close to him to know. Especially the scandalized Sally bit, Jesus that is rough

whoa i didnt know that lol that makes more sense
it was a quite different time back then too, when ppl who are hyper driven to make something of themselves like Don was determined to to escape his past life he didnt know how else to really cope with his s*** and getting therapy for their past traumatic experiences was not something that would appeal to a person like Don the idea of visiting a shrink was looked down on which is prob explains his reaction to bettys use for one when really he desperatly needed some soul nourishment this entire time
for sure iirc correctly that really was thr turning point for him but idk man its something that i think that shadow of a brutal past alwyays finds a way to creep on them, his relationship with sally is prob screwed for life

So true. People, especially men, could not be seen with a therapist for fear of social stigma & judgement. Super sad, don def didn’t get the help he needed for far too long

His relationship with her is 100% screwed I agree, but I feel like he’s made peace with that as much as he could. But yeah Sally hates both her parents which I don’t blame her for at all, both traumatized her in their owns ways
The finale opening with Don in a race car
I love the setting they chose for those final two episodes. Impeccable. The racing scene, the bumfuck Oklahoma town, and California retreat
amazing
