all his tapes and F&L was made before he got on atlantic
T&Y (arguably his best) was his indie album instead of the one atlantic wanted.
Drogas Wave is one of his best projects
majority of his best work is non-label. even The Cool was mostly in house. 95% of his music has been in-house. one of the major problems he had with atlantic.
Fire freestyle, but carrera lu is more of an energy
True. But neither of these recent ones have that Carrera drive. Just the name

It’s mostly about the era
Not about the label specifically
Like really listen to this single besides die hard stans does anyone really think this sounds appealing?
You know you’re trying to force yourself to believe that Lupe over a basic and average trap beat with an ass hook is a good thing. Nobody on earth wants to hear him doing this.
Yeah this is pretty much what the song sounds like to me
If people like it they like it but meh
So what's the context of the title (autoboto) with the song itself?
The whole “I can twist and I contort, I just feel like I’m a Porsche” is referencing a Transformer (an Autobot).
Not sure why it’s called “Autoboto” and not just “Autobot” though

It’s just a microcosm of what I mean as far as the label
I don’t mean the label dictated everything lupe did. But this guy needs someone to go behind him and polish/clean up the ideas that he has so it works. If he still wants to be in the music business or if he even considers himself in the music business. I guess he’s just making art now instead of actual music people want to hear
But this question you ask is just another thing. Like why confuse your listeners just for the sake of naming it some random. All caps AUTOBOTO, think Kendrick did the all caps titles with DAMN is that what he’s going for idk
But yeah just stuff like that and this single choice and overall song just makes me feel like lupe doesn’t know how to market his music best or care but hey like I said this music is meant for a specific diehard part of his fanbase it’s cool but unfortunately not for me I don’t think

Ur being pretty nitpicky lol. People been doing stylized caps title long before Damn.
And him naming it autoboto doesn't mean it is soley a transformer reference and he wanted to confused the listeners, lupe done that w his titles since FNL
And if this is really the most lighthearted song on the album, then it makes sense why he picked it as a single

Fair enough
Question just wondering do you think lupe cares about the music business or is he just releasing whatever he wants?
this will probably be harder than kendrick's album but no one will acknowledge it

"I care about rap, but I don’t care any more about the business side or selling records"
He said this in an interview from a day ago.
So no he doesn't but he also said he has to put up with it

Song concept breakdown thoughts:
Autobots are the protagonists in Transformers.
Lupe is showing how he needs transform into different modes in his career.
As carrera means career/race. Him as an autobot hero transforms into a Porser Carrera in the race of life?
Him repeating ERA may show its a different era for him now.
The verse talks on gangs, vice Lords and crips and bloods. With the idea of Autobots and Deceptacons being rivals in a fight. In the theme of Drill music and drill rappers dying in in gang violence. Him as a autobot transforming in his career to bring a way out of negativity in Chicago, making it like Zion.
AUTOBOTO many be used instead of Autobot because Lupe don't want to get sued and have a court case. Haaa.
Just some thoughts.
I like the signals from the source line too.
Getting insight from God? Autobots getting signals from space.
And the ghost writing wordplay. But sounds like him writing for himself but wanting more credit for what he has done.
this will probably be harder than kendrick's album but no one will acknowledge it
Every Lupe album is better than Midster Midrale, so he shouldn't have any trouble on that front.
We Cry Together or whatever that Eminem ass song was

Maybe he just chose that name because it sounds cool to him. Not everything needs to be “because he’s trying to confuse the listener” or because “Kendrick did the…”. You’re being very critical of even the most minute details it just seems really weird to me. Maybe you just don’t like him?

This the only reason I seen so nit picky or whatever. I like the music business so I like to look at it from this angle
He makes bad decisions and it seems Nick picky but everything he does just makes it harder and harder for anyone but a diehard lupe Stan to access his music or him to market it effectively
Last two albums did 20k and 10k first week if I remember?
This album will probably do 5-7k maybe 10k if he pushes very big
It’s like dude sales aren’t everything but he’s headed on a downward slope and it’s not good
I don’t see how this single will help to reverse the trajectory he’s headed on
Sales aren’t everything but yeah you can’t even make music or have a label without cash flow or retaining a significant interest in your music
Everything he does just implies that he doesn’t care about it and is only appealing to the extreme hardcore lupe listener which is fine if that’s how he wants to live his life and run his business
Im sure he has plenty of opportunities outside of music and people still love whenever he does those concerts where he performs Food & Liquor
I highly disagree with the decisions he’s made in his career since leaving Atlantic but I still love Lupes music and wish him the best I’ll still listen to his old stuff and give this album a try of course
Ok so peep this
DMIZ is Lupe's 8th album and it drops on June 24th. Thats a Kobe reference but IT DOESNT STOP THERE
June is the 6th month of the year. So adding Kobe's number plus 6 = 30 which is Stephen Curry's number. Lupe is Curry's fav rapper
BUT WAIT there's more!
If you flip Kobe's number from 24 to(2) 42, 4-2 = 2. 2nd month of the year is February. Lupe's birth month is February
If you go back to Kobe's 2 numbers. 24-8 = 16. Which is his birth DAY.

LUPE SUCH A F***IN GENIUS BREH

Factual brethren
I remember Add-2 wanted Lupe to feature on one of the songs on his last project, but maybe engineering part of the album is a step closer to getting that feature. Wonder if they'd even met before this.
