I'll say this much, the next era better come sooooner than this one did

    yup
I understand that she likes to live her life and take her time but 4 years is just way too long
puts so much more pressure on each project too

yeah when we get to talking about these celebs' real lives and characters on here it gets weird for me like i just wanna talk about the music man

    yuppp same
if they do something really problematic sure but a lot of this stuff people talk about here just feels like they're prying and projecting their own issues into other peoples lives and relationships

also if lorde was gonna copy/go in the same direction as any 'art pop' artist I definitely would've rathered it be twigs

She is too nerdy to pull that off

She is too nerdy to pull that off

    eh in some ways
But parts of melodrama are definitely twigs esque
She just probably couldn’t pull off the dancing and more sexual aspects of twigs work
But something like cellophane musically for sure

It's funny that every time a pop star releases underwhelming tracks you get the most aesthetically deprived minds of the century yelling that people can't enjoy something different. Stoned at the Nail Salon is embarrassing; lyric-wise (...why is she now writing like a teenager when she used to write like a twenty years old reflecting on her teenage years when she was 16) and production wise (...this is literally an anemic version of what would have been on NFR).

I like California. But it sounds like a demo and I'm not sure I would have payed much attention to it if it had been sung by somebody else.

I don't understand why that line is being mentioned? It's a cliché. It's a line that has existed for years, written differently. It's mostly true. It's mostly false.

I don't understand either fam. The replies I was getting in here yesterday was nuts to me. Most straightforward line in the song

Yeah I disagree with the line but it’s the point of the song. Growing out of the person you were

I like the song apart from that hellraiser line s*** don’t feel like a lorde line at all like someone said yesterday

Stoned At The Nail Salon is better than Solar Power to me but as a whole both tracks aren't hitting like anything from her first 2 albums. This sounds like a great value Lana Del Ray song and not anything unique to Lorde.

The whole direction for this album just seems so forced. Even from reading her newsletters they come across as long form happy go lucky 'just throw your phone away and go outside' type s***. It's just not the vibe people are on right now, but maybe that's just me.

I hope I'm wrong and this album is great but right now it feels like a lot of mid

But it's the vibe she's on right now. What's wrong with her wanting to disconnect from all this crazy internet s*** and lead a simpler lifestyle? It's not just you who's pointed that out but I'm so curious about that.

I get not liking how the songs sound but as far as how she's been living and having the art reflect that, I don't see the issue.

"IT'S A NEW STATE OF MIND. ARE YOU COMING, MY BABY?"

Solar Power mission statement. Idk about y'all but I'm along for the ride and am thrilled to see how the rest of the album/visual components play out.

I just think it's hard for myself, maybe others, to connect with the music if we're not on the same vibe. We're not able to put ourselves in the world that she's trying to build.

And there's nothing wrong with her wanting to disconnect from the world but for the average person that's not easy to do. It comes across as someone with the means to live carefree flaunting their ability to disconnect to me. I don't dislike her for it and all the more power to her, but it seems as if it's affected her lyrics, which as someone else said was really a strong point for Lorde.

Word. Do you think maybe it's not so much a decline in the strength of her lyricism, but rather an acknowledgement of your inability to connect to the content that's having an effect on how you perceive them? I've had that happen with artists so I get what you're saying.

I can't necessarily agree with your second point but it's totally valid and I know plenty of people probably see her new outlook and the newsletters in the same light.

It's possible. At the end of the day how I feel about the music is subjective.

Personally though, when I put the lyrics Stoned side by side with a song like The Louvre, it's hard for me not to see the difference.

Glad you dig it though, hope I come around

Oh I don't love the track either. It definitely didn't have an immediate effect on me like, say, Liability did. It's just certain criticisms come off really odd to me and I be wanting further expansion on them because that's what the site is or at least should be about. I appreciate you conversing with ya boy
