this song is ok, the production is good but not really what i go to lorde for. her music is great because she has great pop songwriting with smart/honest lyrics and weird cool production choices and these two songs have been too safe IMO.

comparing these two songs to green light and liability which were the first 2 melodrama singles, i like solar power more than green light but stoned is nowhere near liability. It's nice enough but I expect more. I'm sure the album will have more creative production but i see why people are mad.

This one and California are both great to me

I like this song and think it works well and is really well written

but it does make me understand the jack antonoff complaints a lot more because it really feels like Lorde's take on that sound rather than a truly original lorde song

im not worried about a more acoustic songwriting focused album from lorde but I am worried about the album just being Lorde's take on the Jack antonoff formula - something that melodrama really managed to avoid being

The production still sounds very crisp and professional no doubt on that. It’s just that these tracks are stripped down and barebones compared to something that’s more multi-dimensional like Buzzcut Season & Perfect Places which is okay - but the thing is, the writing has to be on some otherworldly scale like a Frank Ocean, Self Control esque or Sufjan Stevens, Pleasure Principle.

I’ve personally only loved California from the three and get where she’s going with this sound, influence & vision but it’s definitely going to be a slow burn for people expecting that art pop sound.

yeah i like lana del rey but i really don't wanna hear a lana del rey album from lorde. hoping there's some other stuff on here

she's an incredible writer and one of the only artists out there who can write pop at a level comparable to Frank

but she has such a great ear for production and she's such an original I dont get why you'd want to follow in the footsteps of these other artists doing this sound and why you'd want to let go of at least some of your biggest talents on a project

I like all 3 singles but I've just been waiting to hear a song that makes me feel like it still has that edge and its yet to come
