I agree, this is how I've always seen it. I was saying Kendrick the better rapper, Drake the better artist all the time in high school but then Kendrick dropped TPAB. I guess to me "artist" means experimentation, making enjoyable music. Not necessarily lyricism, flows etc. Like IGOR was Tyler exploring his artistry

People recognize a difference between rapper and artist all the time. You could say Ab Soul a better rapper than Drake, but saying Ab Soul a better artist than Drake would be wild So I fail to understand the outrage/controversy when artists themselves discuss their music like this
