was a big wayne fan when i was younger and there are a lot of songs i can't listen anymore
Btw: I don't f*** with C6 either.
But the revisionist history now happening is insane.
Its same few wayne haters and drake haters teaming up.
Like y'all try and tell me this ain't facts
Didn't even include that FWA bullshit cause everybody forgot about that mess
Should be killed for saying tha carter 4 is mid.
This is such dumb s*** these sloptubers gotta quit.
Waynes discog is not remotely similar to tom MacDonald, lil pump, or any of the datpiff rappers putting out trash for years on end in the early 2010s
He's hurt his legacy and has some s***ty albums just move on
Reminds me of a convo I had on here in the past
It’s all about what you value most from artists. Me personally, I always felt like the album was an artists finals record lol, like that was how I gauged their artistry
But I learned that u don’t have to use that gauge with every artist. And with Wayne I think it’s his mixtapes and individual classic songs / moments that put him up there with the greatest
*a great album
Nah. Tha Carter 2? Now that's a great album. Tha Carter 4 is mid.
In rap, if you don't die or get shot to death, you'll eventually live long enough to be the villain.
Eminem even rapped about that on Zeus. It happened with him. It happened with Wayne. Kanye basically voluntarily did that to himself lol. It happened with Jay. And it's happening to Drake and J Cole right now.
So, far Kendrick is beloved and praised by the masses. But who's to say it won't happen to him too?
Let Kendrick drop one dud in the near future and niggas will s*** on him and act like they never f***ed with him either.
Dying in your prime as a rapper is the greatest stimulus package of all time.
It's pretty dumb because this sort of thing doesn't even happen in other genres as much if at all. There's a plethora of rock bands that put out one or two really great records and then weren't able to capture the same magic and they're still highly regarded
It's moronic that in order to secure a top 3/top 5 spot for hip-hop fans you have to have a flawless discography as if there isn't other things that go into evaluating an artist.
And honestly I feel like people sort of pick and choose what projects "count" in a discography and which ones don't but that's another conversation.
Niggas tryna call Tha Carter 4 great is the exact kinda coddling of Wayne people talk about lmao
Unfortunately for a lot of ppl, when u have an artist whose album catalog isn’t the greatest, you won’t be able to truly understand their greatness unless u were there. You rely too heavily on being able to jump into listening to these artists by going thru their album discography and that just doesn’t paint the full picture for an artist like Wayne
Real for posting Rap Roundtable but this isn’t one of their best takes. Their age and NY demographic doesn’t love Wayne like that and it’s fine, but that take is just coming from dudes who would never listen to a Wayne album for the most part.
Carter 3 legacy is also hurt by losing one of its most important songs Playing With Fire off the original release, so generations have grown up listening to an incorrect tracklist
It’s a classic album though. What other albums would we even say is a “classic moment but not classic album” lol it’s a classic album

I think the convo was in that MJ thread I made awhile ago, fortunately this thread really just proved my point honestly
The standards for what constitutes an all-time list or GOAT status change depending on how much they like the artist or what agenda they have to push

People love the album even though you hate it.

Yeah I think a lot of us who came up in the 2000s/early 10s got too obsessed with the idea of “perfect discographies” and the record of album for album. And would elevate artists who had a strong album record (Kanye, OutKast, Kendrick) far above all the others who had different strengths. We’re still feeling the effects of it but yeah I don’t think we think about songs enough
People love the album even though you hate it.
People love a lot of albums that are garbage. Just look at Scorpion. Or Eminem's discography from 2009-present.

Yes I mentioned it in your MJ thread as well
But I also remember arguing with a Thug fan years ago about the same thing lmaoo
Basically been saying the same thing for years which is funny but yeah

Yeah it’s a weird phenomenon. Idk where it started exactly. I guess people were already thinking that way during Nas early run
Niggas tryna call Tha Carter 4 great is the exact kinda coddling of Wayne people talk about lmao
Maybe we just have different definitions of mid, for me it’s like this
Carter 3 classic
Carter 4 great
Carter 5 mid
Carter 6 trash
Also when so much focus is given to the album as the standard, you mostly just get the “artsy” “conceptual” “experimental” artists at the top and raw artists like Wayne are viewed as less than. Which is flawed. Sean was right when he asked the question “well can he really spit? Or do he just hide behind the skits”
People love a lot of albums that are garbage. Just look at Scorpion. Or Eminem's discography from 2009-present.
Not as many people love those as C4 lol
Most rappers don’t have one album as good as Carter 2/3 , how could he have one of the worst album discographies
Dumb
Cmon. You really believe that? Carter 3 is like a 7/10 at best
