I get why you'd react this way,

but as a creative, nah it's actually the opposite IMO,

refer to Parks from Ep. 623 of the Joe Budden Podcast, if yall need the same exact take I'm giving but from someone widely credible

The most creative ones out here are excited to get their hands on any musical tool available and make fire with it. Quincy Jones woulda still killed everyone with AI at his fingertips

hopefully this take will age well, I'm thinking it will

  • May 4, 2023

but for the other 99% of creatives, in the corporate world, AI poses a greater threat. it will go beyond that too. digital marketing for example, I don't think we're that far from AI excelling at that

we adjust wages for inflation when we discuss these things, but how about those record profits? and when you think about all the devices out there and parents using them to babysit their kids, how could they not be making record profits? it's hilarious that supposedly anti-capitalism folks would even bring this up. and it doesn't speak to the quality or lack thereof of the shows

edit: shouldn't the federal minimum wage be a living wage before we get to the LA tv show writers?

"shouldn't the federal minimum wage be a living wage before we get to the LA tv show writers?"

    Huh ?

well it doesn't if you don't want to consider anything else, but I don't think that way. in the grand scheme of things I'd much rather see wages go up for the average worker, not these writers who have tons of privilege and opportunity

WE GOT ENOUGH MOVIES. GET ANOTHER JOB FOR THE LOCKOUT SEASON AND COME BACK IN A FEW MONTHS. WE'LL BE AIGHT

I honestly don’t watch movies or tv enough to care

Now if ghostwriters for rappers go on strike it’s a different story

Grand scheme of what tho ?

You do know these writers getting compensated more for their work doesnt affect how other workers get compensated right.

It's not a "I have to choose b/n who gets better compensation" thing like ur making out to be

but this COULD be an opportunity for a counter protest of sorts (I know this is a strike not a protest) if enough influential people said wait, what about literally everyone else barely scraping by, can we take care of them too? idk sometimes it feels like the average celebrity is anti-the general population. they'll check all the boxes but they don't really care

I'm not really getting what ur saying. This strike is happening because of the union, just like the teacher's strike and just like the railroad strike.

This revolves around a certain industry. The dealings going on in this strike is not applicable to every industry. So again, I don't see why ur making it "if I had to choose b/n one"

It u support workers getting paid what they're worth, then u should simply also support this.

And fam not all writers are celebrities bringing in millions home every year.

yeah that last part was kind of a separate tangent and I get you on this being its own thing. tbh I hope they're successful. then my mind goes to, has a "successful" strike ever ended up badly for the workers? like mass layoffs, restructuring, etc? with AI bubbling this could be risky no?

I think I support workers getting more money for the work they put in

Some writers make like 30k a year.
    In f***ing LA.

It'd be different if they were all making millions but that isn't the reality of the situation

there's no way a full time writer for mainstream tv in LA is making 30k dawg. maybe an internship or part time.

not all these writers getting paid like that and not all these shows is mainstream like that. You think the writers that work on the netflix shows that the average person skips over is making bank?

bro, stop exposing yourselves as having little to no real world experience. 30k would be low for any kind of entry level office job in LA

go off homie but a quick google search for "entry level writer netflix salary" returns this:

    glassdoor - $4-6.8k per month
    salary.com - $42-59 per hour

that's a range of around $60-100k a year, plus bonuses, stock options etc.

Are you factoring in that the original treatment will probably get you over a little paid and that you can absolutely not be hired again for rewrites?

A nigga can sell a script to Netflic whoever make they little bread, they can take it, do whatever they see fit and not hire you again.

Then your screenwriting agent takes 10%, Your manager takes 10%, your lawyer wants 5%, and then paying Uncle Sam.

That's not even factoring in the cost of living in LA itself, its not like niggas just sell scripts to Netflix and get rich

Bruh these niggas might make bread one year and little to nothing the next lol

Not to mention streaming has f***ed up the game for everybody but big companies. They use a loophole from the 2008 agreement back when Netflix originals and HBOMax and all that s*** aint exist so that they could lowball on writer compensation.

Studios making 20 billion in profits and being stingy on 2% is pretty f***in nuts
