It’s because they’re not actually fans of Drake. They like one type of Drake song & they want him to remake it over & over & over again.

In a different thread, OP said that 0 to 100 is one of their favorite songs & asked why 40 isn’t producing as much music anywhere, but the answer is literally in the song 0 to 100. They don’t even listen to the music they claim to like.

They're fake Drake fans that don't actually pay attention to the lyrics they claim they love

'Cause me, I was tryna find out where I lost 'em at
But maybe I ain't lose 'em at all
Maybe I keep movin' forward and they're just stagnant, they ain't movin' at all

But like, even that explanation doesn't really pass the smell test for me because like, stylistically Hours in Silence for example is similar to Diamonds dancing, which was in 2015.
I actually think he hasn't changed all that much from 09' to now from a DNA perspective.

I was talking to a Drake fan the other day, and they were like 'where's 40 at' and I'm like...he produced Drew a Picasso, which is like vintage drake?

FATD is literally a quintessential Drake album.

People just conflate their own desire for the past, and their affinity for the past and nostalgia with the music IMO

  • Music be subjective so like, I get it but how do you listen to like Marvin's Room, Jungle and like Drew a Picasso and Bahamas Promises and think Drake is just so far removed now?

    I don't get it ISTG 😂

These people never point to wattba as the album they want drake to remake tho. they usually say nwts or iyrtitl which funny enough are the only two drake classics that are not charting on billboard. Even TML is performing better than those two. Obviously the general public who consume music are evolving with Drake but there'll always be a few who are stuck in the nostalgia. On tiktok views, scrorpion, and clb are considered the "old drake". they don't know anything about nwts or iyrtitl

Even w/an album like NWTS, I don't hear the dramatic difference between a song like, Come Thru and Raining in Houston.

When it comes to his flagship solo albums, the formula has been mostly the same since So Far Gone ngl

To Me, he's just better and more mature at the formula he's created.

Yeah the nostalgia is a huge factor.
nwts is my favorite Drake album but objectively his rapping has gotten way better since then. Some people don't want to let it go tho. It took me a while to accept too but once I did I realized how much better he's become.

Also there's another side to this where the haters want to downplay him but he's been dominant for so long that they can't say he's a bad rapper/artist without sounding like haters. They have to credit his greatness to a different and old drake that supposedly doesn't exist now. The issue is the old drake keeps changing as he releases more classics so they always have to keep moving the goal post on what old drake is

I mean for me, he's a WAYYYY better rapper now. Like, Red Button is better than about 95%(?) of his raps pre 2023?

Stories About My Brother? What are we talking about fr

I mentioned the R&B records because while I do think songs like Tried Our Best are better than what he was doing during the Take Care and NWTS days, they're comparable.

His rapping is not comparable at all to me. He's WAY better now. The 'old drake' stuff continues to confound me and this is coming from someone who can recite "Don't you Have a Man" and his "Shorty Grinding" feature front to back. That's how far I go back with buddy's catalogue. He's just way better now.

But you are right in that, his detractors definitely use the whole 'old drake' thing as a way of saying he's washed and it's over. But it's condescending because if you were there, Old Drake wasn't even praised like that. They were calling Take Care a Sade style album fr

He’s a way better song writer & rapper now. Not really close in my opinion, either.

I agree lol. The rapping on red button and family matters is better than everything on nwts except maybe Tuscan Leather. He's become way slicker and every line has a punch to it. The thing is her loss is the last album where he's mostly rapped but even then he's dropped so many rap loosies so its not an issue for me.

I remember back then on every rap forum when every drake hater said take care had too many fillers to be a classic and nwts wasn't good enough. Its those same people that hype up those albums up as "classic drake" because they don't wanna come off as haters when they try to downplay him.
