Because every rapper has an era where their are at the absolute peak of their prowess and remain unable to capture after.

    Every artist, really.

Drake has said himself that he can't write that s*** anymore. I find his newer stuff pretty disagreeable but it is what it is at this point.

Honestly I think his overall wellbeing hasn't been that great for a while, even before the beef, and it's hard to lock in and be your best self in all circumstances.

"People say that old Drake, we started to miss it

But they need to be a little more specific

    Man is this what y'all want?" - 9AMinDallas, 2010

You can't replicate moments in time.

    Reference for sure.
    Reinact for sure.
    Replicate? Never.

People really wanted the old Drake back in 2010

I think it’s Drake’s refusal to respect the art form of the album format

Let’s be clear this nigga Drake makes incredible music. That much isn’t debatable imo. Like $$$4u is full of sweepingly beautiful s*** and he’s had moments of lyrical excellence rap wise all decade. But he just doesn’t seem to care about making projects that are more than the sum of their parts. More than just a playlist of great songs. He’ll stumble upon something cohesive every now and then like in the case of $$$4u but then he’ll pepper the tracklist with s*** that completely kills the vibe the album is creating like Meet Your Padre. S*** has no business around the rest of those songs lol. A mf who respected crafted albums would never do that. If this mf had an ounce of restraint he’d have 10 perfect albums already

I never said it was wack lol that be the thing it just doesn’t fit the vibe of the other songs

He groups songs that are sonically incompatible recklessly that’s why it be so many lol

If he would just be like “aight on this project ima to this sound on the next project I’ll do this other vibe” he’d be straight and drop classics regularly lol. But nooooo he’s gotta stuff everything on there at once and make is eat chicken parm and tacos at the same time 💀

Oh my b yeah I agree he has no cohesion whatsoever. My working theory is a lot of joints he would’ve just passed off as features he’s throwing on his album to recoup the streaming power. If Meet Your Padre was on Chino Pacas album it would’ve been like alright cool lil track but to your point it’s jarring on his album. Same with IDGAF clearly wanted the Yeat stimmy like bruh that’s fr his song no need to put that on your album

Exactly. He’s like that GM that thinks stacking a team with random good players = a good team lol.

Players that are a good fit and function well as a unit = a good team lol

Same goes for a good album. There are mid albums that have phenomenal songs sometimes, they just don’t work as a collective experience

You’re right bro. Least we got some classics out of the discography but not expecting anything other than the status quo unless he shocks me like he did with Honestly Nevermind

Facts that was the rare time he focused on a sound and the result was fire for the most part but I think the execution could have been better

I think the vocal mix is a bit harsh on some of the tracks like Falling Back and his singing wasn’t great on that project which is wild since it’s pretty much an all singing project. I feel like $$4U has way better vocals and singing. I love the beats and the vibe and concept of HNM though. It’s always something with bro lol smh maybe it’s just me

Fair criticisms for sure. I think I’m biased but I’m just a fan of Drake singing and I know people hate the comparison but it’s very 808s inspired in the sense that he’s unapologetically singing in his Drake-ish style rather than trying to do something more polished (?) idk it gives it character since it is a little rough around the edges. I do think he needs to tone down on the vocal tuning but I do wonder how much it has to do with his voice not being in the same place it was 10 years ago prob a combination of substances/not caring/not training his vocals like he used to

One dimensional, subject wise. Once you’ve heard one Drake album you’ve heard everything he’s ever had to say—nothing.

Now stretch that 15 years and it just becomes a depressing second half of a career repeating the same thing over and over again

All writers do this even authors it's a DNA of who they are and how they write ppl just ready for drake be not at top anymore so they drag that narrative all his music the same

  • Nov 4, 2025

His peak overextended for like 5 years after 2015, sometimes a natural falloff happens because people get tired of you and theres nothing you can do about it. Only now his response to that was to superficially pander to the youth and streaming algorithms instead of dialing in on what made him great in the first place.

It’s not a narrative, though. He’s still singing/rapping about the same things he was rapping about when I was in high school lol

He’s not a Kanye, Pac, Ice Cube or a Kendrick that has a huge range of topics. There’s only about 3-4 things he can talk about. Credit to him, he knows it and stays in that lane

Look into the platform dreaming Spanish / the concept of input

In a year and a half I went from no sabo to being able to watch native level podcasts and tv shows. I can understand Spanish I hear in movies or irl for the most part.

All those the guys you name rap about same stuff there output is just far less than drakes besides Kanye so it make it feel less repetitive
