it’s simply the lack of a rollout
him being gone five years adds hype believe it or not

What artists sold more than their last album with a long hiatus?

Ehh 5 years is a really long time to be outside of the mainstream. It sounds harsh but maybe the average listener just stopped caring about Kendrick

    he had no rollout lol

announce the album on a random website a month in advance and stay completely silent for the next month

announce a double album by mysteriously adding it to the website instead of tweeting it

no single but put out the heart pt 5 out a couple of days before which wasn't on the album

put out an album with lowkey the least replay value in his discography besides Untitled Unmastered.

Album still great but I would've loved a Damn type comeback where he ruled the summer again like 2017 but he made a personal project.

"replay value" one of the most overused phrases in the last decade ngl.

His last album had way more promo, he had singles, popular features, the music was more catchy etc

that’s my point lol the lack of promo is why the sales is like this not the hiatus

    nobody should really be surprised

I encourage any Kendrick stan to not give a s*** about numbers if you don’t already, it’s not like a higher number of sales makes a kick drum harder or some s*** lol

This is it. Bro people were literally under the impression he just retired. You can’t leave for 5 years in this day and age and expect to stay relevant.

Exactly lol Kendrick is a mainstream artist at the end of the day. I think 2-3 years is the maximum you should be gone if you wanna maintain hype. Kendrick's longest hiatus before this was only 2.5 years
