its different though. there's not really any culture anymore (outside of maybe the deep deep south) where using the n-word as a white person flippantly (especially in a derogatory way towards black people) is acceptable. There are many cultures where the f word is used towards gay people pretty openly to degrade them, even today.

Oh I'm not disagreeing with that, I know what the song is about, I just think nobody should be forced to feel grateful, people like me are allowed to have mixed feelings about the track, I still think its an important topic and it's cool that someone of that stature is addressing it, especially in a time period like this

I respect Kendrick doing whatever the f*** he wanted instead of phoning it in like he did on some of the DAMN and BP songs but some of this s*** doesn’t sound good imo.

There are some dope songs on this but overall this isn’t an enjoyable listen. I listen to music to have a good time, I don’t care how impressive the concept of the album is or how honest Kendrick is on this. @Oblivion99

It's not about Kendrick embracing a libertarian individualism and saying that people need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps

it's him acknowledging, for himself, that "the culture" sees him, as a celebrity, as a resource to be extracted from

It's cultural mercantilism: maximize the exports, minimize the imports

That's why he used the celebrity deepfakes on Heart Pt. 5

That's why he acknowledges that he wants to see all perspectives

Because he realizes that he cannot be this collective resource for "the culture" when the culture remains antagonistic to a real collectivity itself

He is expected to be the metaphorical virgin who gets thrown into the volcano

He sacrifices his individuality for the collective and we can sit behind our computer screens and criticize him and never put our money where our mouths are

So yeah, he does need to choose himself, because he's right, he's not your savior, salvation is not a hierarchical endeavor, we do it together as equals or not at all

@Scratchin_Bandit I understand and am partially sympathetic to your critique of his individual-first stance, and I wouldn't expect you to agree with that sentiment - I respect your principles -- but I don't think it's as simplistic as him just unplugging his controller and going home

if the message of the song is that using the f word is wrong, he shouldn’t still be saying it by the end, and same goes for the misgendering part of the song

only way to interpret the song is that he’s okay with using slurs & doesn’t actually respect his family members’ gender identities because he refers to them by the wrong pronouns the entire time

Ye's first 5 albums are classics with "MBDTF" being his masterpiece.

Kendrick has 2 classics with "SXN80" & "GKMC" & 2 masterpieces with "TPAB" & "MM&TBS". "DAMN." could be considered a classic too.

Both are GOATS, but Kendrick really hasn't missed yet & I see no sign of him slowing down since he's a master of his craft & pen game's dumb.

Kanye hasn't wow'd me with an album since "Yeezus" & is hit or miss nowadays.

But yeah, to each their own.
