Idk I related a lot to his growth he talked about. Elementary school and middle school kids including me said some wild s*** but you grow as your perspective changes
I remember there was a female in middle school we would joke about then in HS she transitioned to male. This was a long time ago but It wasnât till years later I thought back at the impact that may have had on them.

why the f*** did Kendrick think he had to use slurs to convey his message
its different though. there's not really any culture anymore (outside of maybe the deep deep south) where using the n-word as a white person flippantly (especially in a derogatory way towards black people) is acceptable. There are many cultures where the f word is used towards gay people pretty openly to degrade them, even today.

MissionHonestly this might be the most vulnerable and open Iâve ever seen a celebrity of this stature. Kendrick really poured his heart out to an audience of millions, I canât fathom how that felt. Iâm so happy we have artists like this who will take an emotional risk even though it might not be the best move commercially

It's not about Kendrick embracing a libertarian individualism and saying that people need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps
it's him acknowledging, for himself, that "the culture" sees him, as a celebrity, as a resource to be extracted from
It's cultural mercantilism: maximize the exports, minimize the imports
That's why he used the celebrity deepfakes on Heart Pt. 5
That's why he acknowledges that he wants to see all perspectives
Because he realizes that he cannot be this collective resource for "the culture" when the culture remains antagonistic to a real collectivity itself
He is expected to be the metaphorical virgin who gets thrown into the volcano
He sacrifices his individuality for the collective and we can sit behind our computer screens and criticize him and never put our money where our mouths are
So yeah, he does need to choose himself, because he's right, he's not your savior, salvation is not a hierarchical endeavor, we do it together as equals or not at all
@Scratchin_Bandit I understand and am partially sympathetic to your critique of his individual-first stance, and I wouldn't expect you to agree with that sentiment - I respect your principles -- but I don't think it's as simplistic as him just unplugging his controller and going home

With all due respect I cannot tell you how much i disagree with this sentiment, it's just individualism, it won't move society forward, you can go to the gym, go to therapy, meditate all those other things of self improvement while still being concerned with social issues
