What do y’all think will be the “hit” off this album?
Rich spirit or purple hearts
But nothing here really as grabbing as the poppier tracks on damn
I remember being into the first half ofthis album thinking this was gonna be better than TPAB
too early to tell but this could sit at top 3 for me
I honestly think it is
still amazing but i can see myself revisiting this album more
DAMN was just his least interesting album
Think it's his most interesting, the concept on there more open ended than the other 3
@Artisntdeadyet
I think for Kendrick himself (not saying how it'll resonate with the people) Auntie Diaries was just him learning how to navigate through s*** that he was exposed to when he was young (his aunt being a man) while still having to live in a non-progressive world where that was shunned but he knew even then those negative tropes they put on trans people is cap cause of his auntie/now uncle.
Even asking his mom why the other uncles hated him so much. And bringing up the modern situation with his family member in church, showed he does know that even if he doesn't understand, he recognizes the humanity regardless under a place/church that teaches him the opposite. Which in a time where we have alarming numbers of "don't say gay" type motherfuckers in office pushing these weird laws on the LGBTQIA+ community, is cool.
While still using the f bombs while yeah, it's wild to hear, are a reflection of the times he was in.
As far as this being an anthem? I would hope niggas don't turn it into one cause this is just a personal story. He aint a savior which I think is the overarching theme of the album.
This what the song did for me, I hope this aint taken as me telling you how to feel. Cause yeah, the sentiment can be seen as surface level and I wouldn't argue with anyone that thinks that.
my thing is ppl are being tough on him abt it bc of the stuff he said, but he’s also literally giving his views on the situation from his child POV which I feel is overlooked currently
this song highlights how hard it is to be yourself more than anything for me
your note about a savior is deadon
I feel that in terms of sound and concept it still felt different from the album
Havent heard it all yet but most the album seems to be him rejecting, reflecting, dissecting & comparing expectations & assumptions on him & others/black people/rap music in the past & present with the perspective of his own experiences.
Heart pt 5 was about reflecting, comparing & rejecting "culture". The twisted & blanket term, not black culture as a whole. Of street life n world issues seeping into entertainment & entertainemnt seeping into street life & world issues. Using the faces of each part as an example to prop up his point & illustrated the pictire harder.
At least that is my take so far & perspective, two sides of the same coin.
But yeah, sound wise its like tpab and damn fused imo so far for me, with a lil bit of new on top.
Glad I can say Kendrick, Drake, Cole and Kanye all delivered with their most recent efforts
We know 1 didn’t come on now
There's been some traumatic songs delievered like that in the past tho from artists like Em and even DMX in a sense. Idk I wasn't surprised but I can see why
Most people don't go out of their way to listen to those songs
even Summer Walker ass songs talk about that and get people riled up
I honestly think it is
still amazing but i can see myself revisiting this album more
DAMN was just his least interesting album
Realistically you can only play this on headphones alone.
What do y’all think will be the “hit” off this album?
hope its purple hearts, summer did well on that
I feel like im listening to my neighbours argue with a glass to the wall
Album goes down around crown. Not bad, but it starts feeling boring and alot of the sounds become repetitive
!
https://twitter.com/queersocialism/status/1524990974707085315wild tweet going around
he running around like he baldwin !
msct must be going crazy rn
It’s proper posting rx songs
Auntie Diaries production and flows are fire. Idk how often imma play it because of the content though
Kendrick summarized the gender war going on right now in one song with We Cry Together, the execution is spooking me.
He honestly shocked me with this song.. this is one of the best storytelling songs I've ever heard in rap.
wtf is a "gender war"
