Same with ye with the "Friends bipolar, grab you by your pockets"
yeah
Idk if he's empathizing with Jussie or listing him with ye as people who may have lost their way?
i think the conversation is trying to be culture that we've constructed for ourselves, who are we in culture, and what is it turning us into. the five figures being various good and bad and gray individuals that have in some fashion impacted or shaped our culture in said good, bad, and gray ways. Kendrick asking what culture is, and is it always right

Drake don't do s\*\*\* like this
Sorry had to get that off
hoping the news on we got love is true
kendrick saying out loud
"look what i've done for you" as each figure, makes one postulate what each figure has done to shape the black image throughout our contemporary time
at least thats what i think

I'm starting to see that too. Lemme run it back
what is the big debate with this? is it not blatantly obvious what the song is about? seems pretty clear to me just listening once or twice.
Iâd probably say around 2014 cuz of that Happy song and Paperwork
Wow hell no, i think a producer missing sometimes or being out their prime doesnât mean falling off completely. Also Happy wasnât even a bad song from a production stand point it just got overplayed but peep

This song is great

The self titled NERD album had a lot of fun and inventive production sounds going on in it imo

This was one of my fav Uzi songs at the time

I get he isnât at his best anymore but I definitely wouldnât write him off that soon
Even this song from Girl was great

I can see it not being your style but its good production

it's not like coded or anything
but it has nuance

The Boi a few pages back questioned kendrick's authenticity and character by saying he only ever really has something to say when he has music
i and some other people contested that

i did too but as he started explaining himself he didnt seem to mean it out of malice

he aint mean it out of malice, but it's just crazy cuz like.. black musicians been making music about the black struggle / experience lol that don't mean they're tryna be activists.. they're just sharing their perspectives

That was always my fav from that album
Lost Queen hard too

And it doesn't make it any less impactful either
I wish it were that easy tbh once you watch someone achieve excellence from the standpoint of lacking what it takes to reach that place the motivation fades a life without inspiration feels like being limited for air
I understand. I get into that headspace as an artist myself sometimes. But just remember that it's not forever. Take small steps to gain some momentum and just keep going from there. Remember that Kendrick felt all these emotions too. He just didn't quit. He ain't the only one either. Keep going bro.

yeah, though ignorance, while almost just as potentially hurtful as malice, isn't machiavellian in design.
but yeah no you're right: talking about black struggle is sharing perspective, it's venting, it's commiseration. it doesn't have to be hard activism

i mean that is true and untrue at the same time. his work is usually a culmination of his thoughts and feelings over the years since his last drop. He doesn't do social commentary much outside of his music afaik. Not that he hasn't before, but he does mostly save it for his music. That is pretty standard in music in general though. Doesn't really say much about his character or the authenticity of what he is speaking about.
If anything, I appreciate more that he puts it in the music because he doesn't make much of it so you know it is well thought out and carefully crafted.
That was always my fav from that album
Lost Queen hard too
That album came out in 2014 which was the worst year of my life, i did not really pay attention to any music around that time i was so depressed, which explains why I missed it. What do you recommend from that album?
