Rewatched Parasite to see if my opinion would grow at all, still think it's great (8/10) but the conclusion, even if ambiguous, feels too safe. And the first half, while 'good,' is not much to talk about. Mainly, with the rewatch I just noticed the mother using English more and appreciated the quasi-Invisble Man Ellisionian riffs more

I had such high hopes for Once upon a time in America man. Loved Leone. But I thought it was mostly bad. So sad.

On the topic of Once upon, did ktt like ..In America? I didn't pay attention and only recently saw it.

S*** was awesome to me, not as good as OUATITW or TGBU or something like Godfather part 2, but on par for me with the likes of Goodfellas and the original Godfather.

  • The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) - 10/10

    Certified Copy (2010) & Dead Ringers (1988)
    both 3.5/5*

Mainly liked CC for Julie Binoche, it had an interesting narrative structure to produce questions about authenticity and it’s importance. Maybe my opinion will improve over time. I like the questions it provokes a lot.

Dead Ringers really just could’ve been cut like 10/15 minutes. And the d*** plot line, while assumingely following the real story, distracted from the movie’s central relationships I feel like. I do not care to see all these characters addicted to various d****, their addictions to nearby personas was a lot more interesting and unique. Jeremy Irons gave a good double performance. Also, I don’t like when Cronenberg skimps on the body horror

I enjoyed it, got a little over the top at the end but George C. Scott really sells the anguish his character is feeling.

    Anybody seen The Nightingale??

Bruh this s*** was brutal, and I dont mean that lightly. But it moved me, it made me feel something to the point I came close to tears a few times. One of the best of the year.

I liked it, surprised how little public circulation it got. Not that I expected it to popular, but the director’s last movie Babadook should’ve given her more name recognition. It is brutal though, which seems very fair for a colonial depiction, but the movie has made me think more about how a line gets drawn for what becomes “too much” of a particular topic. In this case sexual assault.

Also watched spirited away and found that far more moving...days later I’m still thinking on it

Also annual tradition of watching the most Christmas movie of all time...eyes wide shut.

After multiple viewings - I’ve just realized that Nicole might be overdoing it a bit? I think she’s great - but is like just trying a bit too hard it takes you out of the mood slightly.

What do you mean exactly with that last statement?

What I took away the most were the moments of humanity in midst of all the brutality. very powerful stuff imo. And yes, ppl are def sleeping on this movie.

Well the movie has like 5 rapes in the first hour. And a lot of people thought that was too much to get the point across. Idk, I sorta agree sorta disagree. I think the point can be gotten across with less. But I also think it’s fitting for a movie about colonialism to have a lot of rape in it. It didn’t detract from my viewing experience but I can understand how it would for others.

It never struck me as unrealistic or exaggerated, maybe cause it was handled in such a natural and believable way. The movie in general is incredibly well handled. I honestly cant stop thinking about it. I never saw the Babadook but Im v intrigued now.
