IT Chapter 2
5/10
I liked Chapter 1 but holy s*** this one was bad

Once Upon a Time in America (1984)
The runtime is the reason why I put this off for so long but goddamn I'm so glad I got to it, what a masterpiece
I'm still putting it off, my last super long movie was Barry Lyndon and i'm still recovering.

Leone and Kubrick both in my top 3, but Once upon a time was 1000 times more interesting as Barry Lyndon to me.

this is a discussion board. go write your insightful 5/5 ratings posts in a word document if this bothered you
insightful 5/5 ratings belong on letterboxed, silly
Me and my buddy watched Hush on Netflix
A movie about a slasher trying to kill a deaf girl
Nice take but as expected, boring and not scary
5/10
The Souvenir might’ve failed in the narrative + character department, but I loved the music and direction. Credits said pt2 coming and idk about how I’d feel about that, because Joanna Hogg is talented but I didn’t love the material for this film.
It’s ironic bc there’s an early seen where a character says that HER film characters don’t need to be justified because every person is equally ‘real’ and I was like ‘ok sure’ but now I do think that this film was dragged by characters that I don’t care about. And there’s a later scene when the girl says that she wants to make a film that gets away from her privileged bubble and well.. this film did not do that.. at all. Talk about a huge swing n miss, very weird tbh.
Or maybe I’m just a big dummy. The critical v audience reception for this is very disparate. I want to read some positive takes
Right now I’d give a 6 or 7
edit: I didn't know that this was based on the director's own experiences. Well, the main characters were still super bland. Idk how this s*** could get so much acclaim. Why would many people care about the early life of a film director who can just keep borrowing money whenever she wants? What type of struggle is that? I'm just really bugged by the film's deliberate bringing up of class only to not handle the topic well at all.. but f*** was its aesthetic on the money (no sarcasm)

only the most insightful of 5 word stale joke reviews belong on letterboxd
I finally watched this joker film and halfway done, stopped at joker’s stand up point. How the hell do any body this think this film is amazing???

You know what, I think i'm going to go for it. I'm always down for Deniro anyway, I just need to clear a good 4 hours.

Is this why I don't use letterbox?

They were on their knees.

Love Exposure (2008)
The most bizarre, surreal and insane movie I've probably seen. 4 hours long. I don't even know what I just watched, nothing can prepare someone for this.
Is this why I don't use letterbox?
its why I don't. ratings are better than imdb though. But they're getting worse and worse as well

this has been on my watchlist and I keep thinking about watching it. Your comment just took my desire to watch down a bit lol.
"Film about (young) film makers (or artists)" is already a groan inducing topic like 95% percent of the time soooo....

I’d still say it’s worth a watch. The direction reminded me of like Michael Haneke (w/o as strong social commentary) meets Terrence Malick (but somehow more grounded & less emotional). I haven’t seen the newer Malick films, but response to this reminds me of how people have described some of his later stuff. If you like those then maybe that’s more incentive to watch. I haven’t seen anything by Hogg before, but apparently she’s a big critical darling & I’m assuming this is her first to get wider circulation (which is sorta funny bc the audience scores are so low but I’m going to try and stop hating now)
Your main gripe is on point, the story isn’t very interesting. I liked watching the film in a more reserved “what do others see it this” type of mental exercise. I think I learned something from it, but I’m still trying to watch more ‘lowkey’ recent cinema
Godfather part III 9/10
Can't believe people didn't like this.
The ending had me sobbing man

persona
