I unfortunately spent money to watch it in theaters :/
I guess I could see how there was “never a dull moment” but personally it just came off as having too many sub plots... The whole movie felt like it lacked structure and rushed af
There’s never just one thing going on it’s always trying to juggle too much and that’s not bad, but the movie just doesn’t do it well
I felt frustrated by the plot most of the time and annoyed by a lot of the characters, the only somewhat like-able character was Howie and even then I didn’t really feel much after the movie ended (trying to be vague as to not spoil s***)
There’s Also so much screaming and loud talking, it just sounds like a mess, I would constantly miss out on important plot dialogue, because they thought having 3 people yelling and 2 conversing would add something??
I actually left the theater with a raging headache and I’m only 20 like wtf
About halfway through I just wanted the movie to end, it was a long 2hrs and whatever minutes lol
I honestly enjoyed the trailer more than the movie lol
Opinions?
Thanks for not attacking me or getting asshurt by the way lmao
Your points are fair, there are multiple plots, loud talking and screaming but that’s exactly the point.
The movie takes you deep inside the shady industry of the New York diamond district. When you have thugs who you need to pay $100,000 back and you’re set up with a gambling addict of a character, you’re bound to get a movie with this level of tension.
SPOILERS:
Howie takes KG’s championship ring and pawns it the same day and we’re left with this feeling like “okay is he a genius for this or is he digging a deeper grave”
It’s small plot details like this that come back around when KG brings back the opal but Howie doesn’t have the ring. Or when KG is stuck in between the doors and so much s*** is going on, will the door open? Is KG trying to finesse our character? Is he even back to return it?
The scale of this movie was frantic and high intensity, there was no way it’d be realistic if characters waited for the other person to finish talking like a high school drama play.

Nice reply!! See now when you say it like that I can respect it, however, I don’t agree that constant yelling = tension
There were moments that weren’t given enough time to let the seriousness of the situation settle in and there were moments that I felt like should’ve had more weight to it
I don’t hate you for liking the movie or anyone else, but after watching it I literally see no in between, it’s either people loved it or f***ing hated it
I simply can’t believe that people out here are giving it a perfect rating or near perfect rating when I honestly thought it was pretty bad
Different strokes for different boats I guess, but I can’t seem to give the movie credit for anything other than its production quality (camera work mainly) and Sandler’s somewhat decent acting
That’s another thing too, the acting, TheWeeknd was stiff and corny which is somewhat to be expected since it’s his film debut, but I didn’t really like how they hyped him up so much to just literally have a couple (probably not even 5 minutes) of screen time, that and his acting was stiff and corny
Even Adam Sandler, he really didn’t display any wide variety emotions, and when he tried he fell REALLY FELL FLAT, I felt uncomfortable watching him cry, because it felt so fake
I respect your opinion, but I just don’t get the reviews saying this movie was perfect or the best film of the year

this was really funny

this was pretty disturbing and defo one of the most obscure films i've watched
Safdies ain’t for everyone
Great art in general isn’t based to please everyone either. It’s up to the viewer to try to understand the vision. If you can’t do that, go ahead and watch some trash like Ford v Ferrari or MCU.
Sandler’s performance was incredible and the reason you may not believe his crying is because he is such a despicable character that you can’t empathize with him in vulnerable moments. If anything that just really shows how amazing an actor he is that it has affected you to that level

I’m kinda scared to watch Eraserhead ngl. Watched Mulholland Drive and some episodes of the new Twin Peaks season and s*** really f***ed with my mind lol.

Sometimes it feels like people are so used to the crying we see in movies that when we see how Sandler cries in this movie it seems unrealistic even tho it is a really good depiction of someone sobbing
I, Daniel Blake (4/5) pretty emotional and no frills
Force Majeure (4.5/5) I really wanna see The Square after this, was a really awkward and frustrating story but told w clear insight. I like these weird, abstract deconstructions of the family unit.
Nebraska (4/5) felt like an ultimate Midwest movie, very funny
Uncut Gems (4/5) cool ending, fun movie. Weird soundtrack but I liked it
& rewatched The Lighthouse w a friend (still 5/5)

Yeh I mean honestly I started kinda chuckling when they both started crying cuz you really have zero sympathy for both characters

4.5/5
Michael Pitt killed this s***! Genuinely the most terrifying movie i've EVER seen

Same here, honestly i'm terrified to even watch Fire Walk With Me after season 2 of Twin Peaks 😨

The Weeknd’s acting was fine. He played himself, that’s exactly how he is irl. Plus he wasn’t even on screen long enough to make an impact. Seems like you’re nitpicking here
Yeh I mean honestly I started kinda chuckling when they both started crying cuz you really have zero sympathy for both characters
whenever his side piece started crying with him it was pretty funny
been watching norse horror movies
and realizing how f***ing stupid larping pagans are
that maypole s*** is so cringe
