I've seen a good amount of Bresson by now, but I have been putting this one off just to get used to his style since everyone really "hypes" this one up so much.
I really think I felt the emotion of the film the whole way through, but I found it a bit stiff and stale, which may have been on purpose. However, the last two minutes had me crying and almost sobbing. It was just something about it all coming together for that. I have never been made an emotional mess over a movie before like that. Over a damn donkey though. lol.

It's absolutely intentionally stiff and I wouldn't say stale so much is austere yeah that finale really hits as some sort of spiritual transcendent experience no matter what you think of the rest of the time

6 or 7, was a bit of a letdown for me being a Polanski and Deneuve fan it didn't move me much at all... some cool shots and memorable bits but overall it's a little slight imo
Have I got you on letterboxd?

Yo, I just checked the runtime and I had no idea it was 3 hours. I knew it felt long but it didn’t drag at any point. I was engaged the whole time

Edit, If you could sit through Nightmare Alley you’ll have no problem with this

    Tranquility

1 star = 7/10 = actually good. separates itself from the pack and i actually care about it
    2 stars = 8/10
    3 stars = 9/10
4 stars = 9/10 that i care about on an emotional level
    5 stars = 10/10

unrated = 6/10 and lower because i find it pointless to invest mental energy into deciding whether a mediocre movie is a 3/10 or a 4/10

6/10s are actually decent, enjoyable movies but not something i particularly liked enough to bother acknowledging with a star

    Director: Paul Thomas Anderson
    Year: 1997

For a modest budget of 3 million this is an immaculately crafted, intimate, character study. It accomplishes most of what it sets out to do even under it's tight economic retrictions to which PTA deserves his accolades and praise for his technical prowess as well as his stellar casting choices.

I don't do star ratings, so this is a thumbs up!👍

    Don't Look Up

One of the worst movies I've seen in a while tbh

Even if I broadly agree with the arguments in the film, it's insultingly stupid

    No worthwhile characters

    Horrible CGI

    Editing was garbage

I laughed quite a bit so 3/10 maybe?
