8/10
It's a shame this got overshadowed by saving private Ryan coz it's good
Goat. How come an 8?
Goat. How come an 8?
I'll start with the pros,
For a 3 hour movie it really didn't feel like it. And it's shot beautifully. The narration gives it an otherworldly feel fr
Problem is there's so many characters that I feel some were underutilized and I wanted to see more of them/ doesn't leave an emotional punch as strong as it could've been (Seriously, George Clooney gets like 5 seconds tops lmao) but I get it. Sean Penn and Jesus did their thing

its a wonderful life
the best christmas movie ever, and one of the best of all time. the ending is so so cathartic ive never not teared up during it
Place beyond the pines (2nd rewatch after 4 years)
9.5/10
This might be a top 5 film of the 2010s
It’s both perfectly rated and criminally underrated
Derek cianfrance and andrew dominik were killing that late 2000s-early 2010s period, really thought they’d be headed for GOAT director status
Still happy we got classics like this, jesse james, out of the furnace and killing them softly from them tho
Mini rant might a make thread of this later but the past 5 yrs have been largely disappointing for film
Like other than the generic big names like villeneuve it’s like there’s barely any unique ass solid films
Maybe it’s just nostalgia as i was 13-16 when i became a cinephile but that early 2010s period of films were magical
Like what’s the “Frank” or the “Her” of the past few years? I probably watched american hustle every month around the time it came out. Wtf is david russel even making nowadays. Moonrise kingdom by wes
Idk the scene just seems less magical. Like wtf has even been winning movie oty lately greenbook? Parasite was good but overhyped
Speaking of place beyond the pines another quintessential early 2010s film. The classical music score and long drawing takes, everyone was tryna copy malick cus tree of life came out lol. Films like take shelter, Her etc can go on there was a very distinct style that makes me feel good when I revist them
Maybe its just nostalgia

came to post this movie
first watch for me last night it was more like 7.5/10... second act just didn't hold up to the rest of the movie for me and the pacing switch just lost me for a little bit
just finished watching stalker. this is the first time that i have no idea what i just watched
finally watched once upon a time in hollywood. it was good but not as funny, stylish or captivating as other tarantino movies imo

I thought La La Land had golden age levels of cinematic magic but maybe that's just me.

2nd half of the movie I didn’t really like but still appreciate the movie as a whole if that makes sense.
I gotta watch this man, I love val
you won’t regret the watch my friend!
Any suggestions for movies similar in tone to whiplash? That s*** was absolutely incredible
Finally got around to Grave of the Fireflies. About as good and sad as I was expecting. Recommended.

I thought the same thing too I thought it was gonna be pure corn but only about 25% of it turned out to be corny. It’s just a really well done movie. But it’s heavily inspired by golden age Hollywood cinema so it isn’t gonna have the same appeal as indie flicks over the last few years
Man the first Spongebob Movie aged so well, consistent laughs and being older knowing about themes it’s such a simple yet effective story
The squidward side plot is written so well
Maybe a bit nostalgia factor since it released in theaters on my birthday in 04 and I saw it that night
