9/10 Ending was a lil anticlimatic but great movie overall !
Did you notice what happened to their daughter at the end?

All I remember is the end where they were Christmas shopping. Did I miss something?

this s*** was some mid. like literally a decent movie that had some cool parts but is completely forgettable. weird because it's super hyped as being one of the most slept on horror films and even one of the greatest horror films ever made. not a huge fan of the genre, but this wouldn't even make my top 20 list. no idea what the hype is about, and having saved this for my Halloween movie, wish I watched something else.

Decent. I liked it. It was pretty interesting and the ending was pretty dope. Def worth a watch but nothing crazy special

This was pretty cool. She also gave me Margot vibes.
It was fun watching her try to survive.

There is a theory that they gave up their child to the higher society so they didn’t have to face any other consequences. You can see the daughter walk away in the shop with two men in suits at the end.

Yeah the main girl was really good. Was VERY impressed with her intensity, especially towards the end.
Howl's Moving Castle for the first time. Such a cute movie. Think I like it better than My Neighbour Totoro.

Watched this tonight, watched an a***ysis video, read some thoughts from others online and thought a little bit more about the film myself
Yup, this is a 10/10 fam

8/10
really like these kinda movies so my score biased. Prolly more of a 7/10 if you aren’t into this kinda s***
funniest thing about this movie to me was how the nerdy Indian girls were portrayed as the “mean girls” of their school. In what universe
Overall nothing special but i liked Harvey Keitels performance a lot
6/10
masterpiece on rewatch. easily one of his best imo

That's quite the unpopular opinion
Goodfellas & Casino literally tower over this film in every way imo

nah.
nah.
I'm cool with having a unpopular opinion bro but at least be reasonable
You're the first person i ever heard who would pick Mean Streets over Goodfellas & Casino. They are way too iconic.
Goodfellas the best film of the 90's

Imo Goodfellas is quite overrated. It's def entertaining but I find it to be a pretty hollow due to it's heavy use of voice over narration and it's pacing which floats a bit too much through the story. Something biopics always do. Tbf, I just cannot stand biopics because of that. Raging Bull has the same issue for me.
Casino is visually more overflowing and has more intense dramatic elements imo.
Mean Streets puts Catholicism and gang life against each other and introduces De Niro's character to create tension. The catholic and "bourgeois" style of living has to face the realities of a violence and power dominated city. This becomes emphasized by plenty of visual cues. It's rougher and more vibrant imo. The pacing almost feels like Fellini towards the end. As if something is going to explode. Once you know how this film works it's way easier to get used to it's style. Goodfellas does that in a similar fashion but it feels more superficial to me because the scenes that concern the bourgeois side feel a little overglossed and the gangster life is more in line with something like Scarface, which could work but takes away from the gist of the story so that the film mostly becomes more about individual scenes and a rather abstract and sometimes stereotyped portrait of gang life.
However, since Scorsese has turned away from that style of filmmaking a long time ago his only 70s work that gets much praise these days is Taxi Driver, his masterpiece imo, but even that one gets criticized more often.
Imo Goodfellas simply fits more with a generation that has been raised on Tarantino I guess. Nothing against Quentin here.

I might just not be a fan of early Scorsese then because Taxi Driver wouldn't be in my top 5 scorsese either. I like that one a lot more than Mean Streets though
Mean streets just wasn't as great on a technical level (which is ofc understandable), less interesting characters and such a boring plot in comparison to his later work
It just felt like Scorsese was still finding his voice when making mean streets
