i do like some of his stuff though. I think I even thought OGF was pretty good despite everyone s***ting on it.
I just think ND is awfully written.

The opening shot (it's the model with the slit throat I think) says as much as the entire film. It never got more meaningful or insightful. And that was as subtle as a brick to the face. Plus confused in how he portrayed women altogether.

Cinematography also just highlights how dependent Refn is on hanging neons everywhere so someone on reddit can complement the "cinematography".

Its definitely got some s***e dialogue and questionable portrayals of women (although venomous women do exist and i dont think only women should be allowed to portray that) its gets at least a whole extra star for shock factor. Was one of the few (maybe only) new films ive seen in an indie theatre where the whole audience was screaming and yelling a retching and throwing popcorn it was a great time. Also i dont think Drive went overboard on the neon. Also Valhalla Rising was dogshit.

Can't argue against your theater experience. But I know your not watching it in theater right now!

No I don't think Drive overdid it either. Was just right with the light themes. Not particularly great looking either though overall. But miles, miles better than Neon Demon.

I do remember hearing him talk about how it influences his films look. But he's done much better looking films with less cringy set pieces and shots. And I think that aside it's not particularly interestingly filmed.

Sit close enough to a 70 inch with 5.1 and it's about the same not deep and not my fave Refn but i value shock factor and it's a good time

Strangers, Milan and Day of Wrath are all time favourites for me

I take it wasn't you debating the classic status of Strangers with me a while ago?

It really shows glasses as symbolism and foreshadowing tool. Raymond Chandler kills it!

Crash 7/10. I just thought that they pulled the race card waaaayyy too frequently (like every damn scene) and relied on it to tell the story. But I did really enjoy the last 40 min or so
