Newer-ish Cleveland hardcore band’s newest album. I like the music more than the vocals but maybe they’ll grow on me:

Love her but I have questions. The album doesn’t feel like a self titled. The Radiohead cover seems random and with Weird Fishes being one of my top3 Radiohead songs, it took me out of the album from the very first beat.
Her voice reminded me of Alicia Keys most of time. Ive never felt this with her previous albums. But overall the album is great. Every song was beautifully crafted
8/10
I fw that Chilombo album. Very chill vibes.
Right now finally getting around to this ChloexHalle album, this s*** slaps

what would a self-titled entail if not the stages of a failed relationship, love and heartbreak and all that comes with it? it's a life event that teaches you about yourself more than most things. and she displays all of the emotions and feelings that ran its course throughout it, the ups and downs, the joys and flaws and insecurities. i'd say it's pretty appropriate but interested to know your thoughts.
as far as weird fishes, apparently she has been performing this cover for years and it's become a fan favorite but she never felt inclined to record a version with her band until now, and she said the song fit exactly where she was in life and the relationship when they finally decided to do it.
it's a pretty abstract song (it's Radiohead) but the lyrics can be easily tied into the album. the interlude before it indicates the turning point of the relationship when she realized it wasn't going right. they've reached "the bottom of the sea" and she's weighing whether it's worth it to stay. eventually she realizes what's best for her and "escapes" and the album continues through ending the relationship. at least that's how i interpret it. weird fishes is her coming to terms with having to quit on the relationship.
this is long as hell. i've been listening to the album a lot lol

I appreciate this. Thanks for answering my questions.
I guess one can use the lessons from a failed relationship to discover who they are. I think thats what she alludes when she sings “Im born again” in Bittersweet. For me it’s just freedom more than anything else.
All my criticisms are just me nitpicking the album because I was expecting a deeper dive into who she is and more self reflection, instead I got a breakup album.
Im still not convinced about the inclusion of Weird Fishes but I understand thats just a personal problem because I overplayed the original.
The album is still excellent tho. I think I even like it more than Blood, so it’s like my favorite of hers

if you think about it, a lot of us as humans do define a lot of our "self" by our relationships lol especially those involving love. but at the same time i get wanting more introspection aside from that.
out of curiosity, what are some great examples of self-titled albums to you?

prolly the only one who thinks Fade a top 5 ye song but idc
Real Friends hittin today

Hard question but from what I can remember at the moment, I’ll say: St Vincent, Vagabon, Beyoncé, Kiwanuka, Willow and Chris by Christine & The Queens (technically not a self titled but close enough and the album chronicled her entire life from childhood trauma to now)
I feel like these albums were able to show how multi faceted these artists are and most of them have relationships songs too but they werent the main focus of the album.
I love Lianne La Havas (the album) but I just wasnt sold on the self titled aspect.
I think releasing a Self Titled has become very tricky and nowadays it immediately set our expectations higher than usual.

KIWANUKA is so good
definitely BEYONCÉ and janet. and since you got Chris, I'll give you (The Diary of) Alicia Keys

Yep these are all amazing. Janet is a little too long but the highlights are among her best songs ever. If is extremely influential and Thats The Way Love Goes is a classic

Wanted to listen to some 80's gems I never really fully listened to. R.E.M. is one of those bands I can tell makes amazing music but it's just not for me, I can't really get into their work. P***ography is incredible
Ill definitely be exploring & listening to more of The Cure's discography.
