It can be both
One is tangible. The other is rhetoric for the thing that is tangible.
It happened mainly because Japan seeked to become a world power and we didn't want to support their new ideas and started cutting off agreements with them.
And for that they bombed us. Never again can we be submissive. We should've bombed them first.
And we were supporting their enemies with resources too
Ok but whether it’s private or public why do we need such a huge military power? You realize that’s the main expenditure of the govt that you claim to be in favor of reducing in size / power?
We need a huge military power to establish our status as the #1 country in the world. We not only protect ourselves but the UN as well. You realize China has over 40 seats at the UN right? Without USA dominance, China would govern the whole world
I really hope you’re not basing a military funding argument on our Middle East oil war
How is fighting a war with technology going to work? Who benefits?
What constitutes a war scare? Tweets?
bombings, spying, shootouts between country soldiers. All that consitutes war scares
You don't think india and china firing at one another and murdering each others people is a war scare?

Again. We could cut our military budget by hundreds of billions and still have the biggest military in history
And we were supporting their enemies with resources too
Enemies that they made after they declared they wanted to be power hungry monsters.

We don't have to be the number 1 country though

In history sure, but for the future with China and Russia every day catching up to us? Not for long.
We don't have to be the number 1 country though
If we aren't the UN is f***ed and China will be the number 1 country. That is a scary ass world to be in.

Spies are different than military.
China and India firing on one another is something the US needs to fix?

We spend substantially more than not just China but the rest of the other top countries in military spending
In history sure, but for the future with China and Russia every day catching up to us? Not for long.
You got numbers saying they’re within half of what the US spends?
Spies are different than military.

The US can definitely use China and India's situation as a way to help reduce China's power in the world. Every dispute in the world is a world problem, not just those 2 sides.

What is a #1 country to you

China doesn't have to spend as much when they can get workers for pennies compared to us
Obviously it's more nuanced than I'm presenting it here, but there are people who have an even better grasp of the ideas I'm taking about. But the essence I'm trying to say democratise hoe the economy works, if we're going to present democracy as good let's extend it on to the economy, it seems a rational next step in how society is run.
Okay, but what's going to stop the democratically appointed council from abusing their power ?
And what's going to happen to corporations afterwards and how is the state going to be involved

Can you give me some instances where China’s power has had negative effects on countries this year
Having the most power in the world
I completely understand your argument now.
Since you’re genuinely curious the only time I’ve seen this work (in theory) were in small island villages in the Pacific. My Professor did field work there for linguistics and he spoke about how it was the closest thing to pure communism that he had seen but life in the village was much simpler than modern society now. But he observed that the hierarchy in regards to the delegation of labour was rigid and primarily ordained through titles bestowed in the village. The system was fascinating to read about, but on a larger scale I don’t think it would work like some posit regarding direct democracy.
Yeah that's what I'm thinking, in a modern society that is as large as america the system becomes more flawed as you have to take in account other factors

Sure. They are literally running Africa into a huge debt pool currently that they will not be able to get out of. Their work for the middle east and africa is in part why they are freely torturing Uyghur muslims in their country and none of them are protesting against it because they are bought by China.
China's TikTok platform also clearly is contributing towards being a spying platform from China to the rest of the world
