i dunno dude it depends on the material conditions

Lol yup there we go. You have no plan except to vote for a mystery candidate but no matter what happens you get to feel good and that's what really matters right

With household trash collection paused, bags of waste have piled up on the sidewalks and at designated city collection sites.

Wages are the sticking point in the negotiations, DC33 leader Greg Boulware said earlier this week.

“We got people that work and repair the water mains and can’t afford their water bill,” he said. “We got people that repair the runways at the airport and can’t afford a plane ticket. I don’t want to be rich. We just want a comfort inside the city that we serve daily.”

The average DC33 member makes $46,000 a year. According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, that figure falls $2,000 below the city’s “living wage” per the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Living Wage Calculator.

Sanitation workers in Philly are on strike right now for one example, trash is piling up all throughout the city and the situation is getting worse and worse

They're using this powerful leverage to negotiate better contracts

    https://whyy.org/articles/philadelphia-city-workers-union-contract-negotiations-strike-mayor-cherelle-parker/

one example of labor organizing being able to put pressure on the city officials

ok that sounds better than hitting the gym and deleting Facebook to be fair

do u think the natural course here would be to just let the mayor stay in office or should the people organizing (who don't like the mayor) try to organize to vote them out as well?

That depends on who runs and whatever im not fully tapped into the Philly politics... If they had a solid candidate running next election then they could get behind that i guess, or they could pressure them to step down, not sure what the best route is for them i dont live there. Thats just the most recent strike ive seen news about and thought it was a crazy visual of the trash piling up people can't ignore it with any of their senses lol

Plus the threat of rats everywhere is crazy

so sounds like the best solution is somewhere in the middle (organize protests and vote them out simultaneously)

Yeah why not, any progressive candidate thats worth a damn will have to go up against whatever corporate interests have poured billions into the current leadership usually so they gotta be on point

One example is zohran although he's pretty rare and we havent seen what happens in the general but not everyone is built like him the way he can navigate scrutiny and refocus the convo back on affordability and so on

There's no guarantee however that an actually good mayoral candidate will pop up though, that isn't milquetoast performative bs, but it's always the right time for labor, tenants and other organizing to advocate for themselves regardless of whos in office

So no executive order to send military relief for the Texas floods? Sending the Director of homeland security to battle climate crisis efforts?

Texas doesn't want federal government handouts like the poors do

Trump said that disaster relief should be handled by the states not the fed govt

Seems like both sides are in agreement with each other

If they can complain about their taxes going to “welfare queens” I can complain about mine going to them especially when they’re a net drain, vote against their own interests time and time again, and keep putting ghouls like Mitch McConnell in office
