The real question is how will Trump secretly take the tariffs back when he realizes it’s going to hurt the economy more than benefiting the country in the coming weeks and how will he lie to his numb nuts supporters why it was done?

I do wonder how this will play out… if Trump’s telling the truth about a potential $6t worth of investment lined up in the coming months / years, this could become a massive success story for USA-based manufacturing and re-industrialisation of America after decades of decline and other countries becoming more attractive to investors.

Short-term I don’t see the tariffs ending but medium to long-term I can see them coming down if countries (by necessity) reduce protectionist policies and open up to allowing US-made goods into their markets. Or it could all end in disaster and the average American becomes poorer as its economy becomes increasingly insular. This really is uncharted territory.

i think these are here to stay, between the announcements and now he's had plenty of time to learn about the consequences and the market has already started reacting before today.

Not like any of this will be a surprise to him. I think the hope is genuinely that he stays in power long enough for this to come out the other side as a net positive, but it'll take years if not decades for that to happen.

What does medium to long term MEAN?

    That could be 20 years.

Has anyone seen like, non-partisan forecasts on how long it would take the tariffs to be a net-benefit on the US economy? Just wondering if its like 3 years before the US starts to reap the benefits or if its like 30.

Wait, apparently the press secretary and treasury secretary don’t 100% know if the China tariff is accumulative or not?

    Incredible leadership. Winning so much.

If we just stop helping the poor in every possible way, we can save enough money to give Elon an average paycheck.

6 trillion over 10 years is a drop in the bucket and that’s taking it in a vacuum not counting all the economic turmoil it will cause

The government alone spends almost $7 trillion every single year lol

    Its so fun.

Like we could just put a dent in the income of billionaires who will never need another single dollar to survive for generations.

But instead, let's indirectly kill poor people.

And there is probably no helping those people. You can explain it until you're blue in the face, but if Trump dictates it's bullshit they'll never see differently.
