Kendrick is at a hollow point of his life and it resulted in a hollow record where most of it feels forced/cliché—this isn't gonna get better. He'll just get defensive and deem it a personality.

    I conditionally agree

We don’t know exactly why he’s returning to this small and personal circle and whether it’s to reassess his place or to leave the world behind

took some time away from the album and decided im in the « i don’t like it » camp

i feel like i get what he’s going for and the music isn’t good enough to warrant a somewhat superficial message that @op lays out clearly in his post

I definitely feel like any ordinary person would see this as milquetoast but also Kendrick was given the “crown” to the west coast by Dre himself at 23

    Entirely different schtick happening

That family ties verse is funny in retrospect

Bro spent the entire verse smoking literally every rapper he could think of and the second the album starts he’s screaming “I GRIEVEEE DIFFERENT” on a Radiohead instrumental

Talking bout how Kanye and drake coming together made him realize how much growing up he had to do

a lot of the big rappers were hitting a creative slump before covid but it seems like covid really took a toll on them creatively ngl

thé big three is def kanye kendrick and drake idk why ppl made it seem like it was cole other then he’s young

with that being said, their records were massively disappointing for me as long time fans of them

it feels like at this point the artists i grew up on are kinda washed at this point and the future is tyler and hopefully some new niggas

he’s a brilliant writer but it feels like after this album, he should move on from music

i know it’s controversial but i don’t see how an album like this will find radio / streaming success, will tour

i feel like him and kanye have been struggling trying to fit into the mainstream while still giving these big budget « high art » pieces.

feels like kanye is a little better at the mainstream and kendrick is a little better with committing to his ideas (we literally saw donda become everything BUT an album about his moms and grief) but they’re both at a point where their kinda done with the music industry.

like at this point i’d rather see kendrick write plays lmaooo i know ppl are gonna get on my ass but i feel like him directing acting and writing would be so cool.

family ties and the heart made it seem like his heart was really in rappin but the album…

idk mane. anyone saying i should listen again, i never thought i’d see the day where i’d feel forced to listen to a kendrick album. but here we are and i can’t give you a single song that i’d enjoy casually, and can only give you one song i really enjoy artistically

i’m glad he’s getting therapy tho and i hope it speaks to people

lol, I was just listening to Family Ties on YouTube and "the game needs me to survive" made me laugh, but not the original good laugh I had when the track dropped.

    It was on the Heart

I do like the album but I let Heart Part V get to me, that song is definitely at the top for me this album cycle.

Idk how recently he wrote that but I hope it’s an indication that he still has that fire in him to make a great album.

    Scratchin Mamba

    Same with Drake lol

It's not about Kendrick's views being so much worse or anything, his work throughout his career is just more about social issues so it makes sense to talk about his music in that light

to be real kendrick and kanye both been had political themes and also admitted their ignorance ye acknowledged his own hypocrisy from jump whereas the first time i heard kendrick do it was blacker the berry unless i forgot

but they both got a lot of similarities imo

all the eyes will be on whatever comes out of the pgLang project.

Kendrick doesn’t need to prove anything right now but i’m interested to see the impact he has on others artists.

At this point you could easily name 5 artists that emerged in the last 5 years that have been more influential to their peers.

Kendrick makes people think that’s a fact but I don’t see no one act.

I feel like a lot of artists overestimate the role of art in social change because it's the main way they engage with the world, TPAB was an incredible album but it's not like it really changed the world in a meaningful way

Yeah the belief they can accomplish this is total narcissism. Art is a reflection of the world, if isn’t the force that moves it.
