Honestly if you dissect it it really was not friendly. It was basically Cole and Drake ganging up and saying we're in the superbowl and Kendrick is in 3rd

Ok fair. Never considered that POV. I just always took it as drake popping his s*** to make a case, Cole popping his s*** and then acknowledging that Kendrick is right there with them.

I definitely think Cole being the dude who has always been cool with Drake and Kendrick — two guys who have been going at each other for over a decade now, put him in a weird place as some sort of third wheel.

But I don't think he "linked back up with Drake." Them two have remained pretty good friends through it all. Also, I think Kendrick kind of removed himself and went into hiding while Drake remained active and Cole also being active meant that it made it possible for them to have more chances of linking up. If it seems like they've gotten closer in recent years, it's likely for that reason.

I agree, I think the stars just kind of aligned perfectly in a way for it to all go down this way. I do think Cole linking up with Drake and making First Person Shooter was definitely goading Kendrick to get back into the game though

That's the thing with Cole. Even when he's inspired he just cannot reach the heights Kendrick and Drake can. Kendrick dropped GKMC and Cole tried to match his energy with FHD and while he dropped a great album he's never going to touch any of Kendrick's conceptual albums.

True but I think Cole, Kendrick and Drake all have their strengths. I'd never ask Kendrick to try to do what Drake does so I get lost when people try to use the fact that Kendrick is a conscious nigga as a way to down Drake. Even with Cole. He walks his own line. He's like the blend of both Kendrick and Drake in terms of what he does. I like that they all do different things. The game would be wack if all 3 of them were conscious niggas but maybe I'm the only one who thinks that.

Also the fact he dropped the tape as his last financial obligation to Cash Money which just made the whole thing even more epic. I remember it was a random drop too. I got out of work that night and saw Drake dropped a new project. Nothing Was The Same no pun intended

His best album was also his first album as an established artist that wasn’t owed to his label bc of a contract he signed. He made iyrtitl bc he wanted to. The hits were organic, the promo was nonexistent bc it was unecessary, and it just happened to be the perfect blend of all the personas he’d been toying with up till then. The hard rapper / soft rnb singer yin yang worked PERFECTLY on it. Such a good ass tape.

Kendrick’s whole control verse was friendly and everyone except Drake understood that lol

First Person Shooter was also friendly and yet it got Kendrick so mad that he popped his head out to rap for the first time in months lmao.

I hope all of this action is not too harsh on Kendricks mental health. He needs a break from time to time. All of these expectations are just too much. Please consider his feelings.

Isn't that what y'all call "friendly competition"? Why did it get Kendrick so upset that he got on a song and said "fuck the Big 3"?

Agree with this completely. Although while I completely agree what you said about Cole I still think Kdot and Drake can both still do both lanes better than Cole

You worded this perfectly. It really is a perfect storm in how he approached the tape

Oh yeah, definitely. Kendrick is the much better conscious artist and Drake is the way better hitmaker. Cole is kinda like the jack of all trades, master of none in that regard (no offense lol).

Yeah and that's probably just because them two missed seeing him outside and yet he took that as some sort of slight lol. I bet they both wanted to share a moment together with Kendrick on a song or something and now look lmao.

Drizzy Corleone doesn't even need Baka or Chubbs to step in for this one. Smiley can take Midrick on his own.
