Some of you really believe that niggas can't be competitive AND be friendly with each other while also claiming an all-out rap beef is "friendly competition"
Imo, the truest way to compete in music is through the actual music. I remember Cole and Kendrick speaking on how So Far Gone changed everything and affected the way they made music going forward as mixtape rappers back then. That was a competitive move on Drake's part. Doing s*** that inspires your peers to be better is being competitive.
It's silly to think that you have to beef with a nigga to compete with him lol.
I'll admit, I find it interesting that him and Drake have been able to remain cordial with each other throughout their runs, even so far as supporting each other at every turn.
I remember back in '09, how radio people would try to bait Cole to go at Drake lol. It sucks that most of those clips aren't on YouTube anymore.
They'd talk s*** about Drake and try to bait Cole but he'd always respond with s*** like "nah, I f*** with Drake. He dope for real." This happened till like 2013 when they realized he was never gonna be the one who they'd be able to get to go at Drake. I felt so validated when he briefly mentioned that on Middle Child because I'd tell people about it and they'd say I was capping lol.
I had to go reread the Middle Child lyrics again cause of you haha.
Nah for real, got to respect Cole for that, he seems like a cool dude and wouldn't start beef for nothing BUT at the same time that trait has proven to a detriment in getting to his main goal which is being the best rapper. He's been around Drake and Kendrick both kind of serving as a useful ally for both. I think the lines are being drawn now though. I think it's rubbed both Cole and Drake the wrong way with how Kendrick kind of acts like he's above the game, especially Cole since they kind of came up together in a way, so Cole has basically decided to link back up with an old friend who just happens to also be an enemy of his new frienemy.
It's the lightskin bi racial boys vs king kunta from compton
Rappers kissing ass <<<<<<
F*** that s*** man show appreciation for each other when you reach 50 or sum y’all niggas are still young lol

That's the thing with Cole. Even when he's inspired he just cannot reach the heights Kendrick and Drake can. Kendrick dropped GKMC and Cole tried to match his energy with FHD and while he dropped a great album he's never going to touch any of Kendrick's conceptual albums.
Here I be, amidst the dim candlelight, swiggin' this ale o' loneliness. The very seas beneath me creak and groan, a harbinger of fate's turbulent tide. Me kin lie slumberin', but me senses be sharp as a cutlass, for I sense the shadow of the six god drawin' near.
Aye, 'tis a moment that fills me with excitement like the crackle of a bonfire. Prepare, for the longed-for reckoning be upon us.

Kendrick’s whole control verse was friendly and everyone except Drake understood that lol
Kendrick dropped GKMC and Drake came back with IYRTITL
NWTS will always be superior to IYRTITL. I’ll never understand the hype for that tape.

NWTS had the pop sensibilities but IYRTITL is just so f***ing raw. No Tellin' / Star67 / Preach / Now & Forever / Wednesday Night Interlude / Jungle
NAH YOU TRIPPIN THAT TAPE IS FIRE

we didn't know how good we had it at the time. these zoomers have literally nothing :chanlaff:

First person shooter was friendly but look how Kendrick took that.

Honestly if you dissect it it really was not friendly. It was basically Cole and Drake ganging up and saying we're in the superbowl and Kendrick is in 3rd
First person shooter was friendly but look how Kendrick took that.
That’s true
I kinda agree with the Shawn Cee take tho (of all f***ing people)
Yo, yo, yo, lemme tell ya 'bout the legend, the icon, the one and only Aubrey. Man, this dude's like a musical magician, turning every track he touches into pure gold. From the bangers that get the party poppin' to the heartfelt jams that hit you right in the feels, Aubrey's versatility is off the charts, ya feel me? And don't even get me started on his work ethic – dude's grindin' harder than a coffee bean in a blender, constantly pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the game. Plus, he's always showing love to his fans, keeping it real and staying humble despite all his success. So here's to you, Aubrey – keep shining like the star you are, and know that your music will always be the soundtrack to our lives. 🙌🎶 #ChampagnePapi #LegendStatus

God… what did Shawn Cee say 😂😂

Also the fact he dropped the tape as his last financial obligation to Cash Money which just made the whole thing even more epic. I remember it was a random drop too. I got out of work that night and saw Drake dropped a new project. Nothing Was The Same no pun intended

I definitely think Cole being the dude who has always been cool with Drake and Kendrick — two guys who have been going at each other for over a decade now, put him in a weird place as some sort of third wheel.
But I don't think he "linked back up with Drake." Them two have remained pretty good friends through it all. Also, I think Kendrick kind of removed himself and went into hiding while Drake remained active and Cole also being active meant that it made it possible for them to have more chances of linking up. If it seems like they've gotten closer in recent years, it's likely for that reason.
