    He literally does owe them

How you think deals work? They just give you a bunch of money and that’s it? Like what kinda dumbass post is this

bidding war. UMG is happy as F*** to have drake on the label. best believe the contract is exactly what drake was looking for and nothing less.

look this guy is a huge money machine for the recording industry did u really think they wouldn't show him love?

Drake is nothing but a money machine to them

You think they gonna let some beef dirty up his name and risk that?

The only way Drake walks out of 2024 without carrying the biggest L of all time is if he finally drops his Stankonia/MBDTF

You think UMG is looking at the situation like “well boys at least we have his old hits”? lmao

Nah they want every dollar they can make. They want his old stuff and want him to continue making stuff

Sure but you don't think when they are making their contracts they don't factor in that tomorrow that artist could be in a car accident or some s***.

Yeah the contract was huge but I guarantee they knew if Drake dropped off the face of the planet the next day they would still be ahead with that deal.

All of Drake's unreleased songs are still UMG's property.

He also originally said it was a hit because it’s a good song not because of the “Drake stimulus”

Then immediately went back on that

Drake is an investment just like every single other artist. That 400m they paid him comes with expectations to earn them x amount ROI

Their argument against this is “nah everyone loves Drake and he’s done enough for them”

    Like it’s not a f***ing business

From a business perspective their argument makes zero sense

If UMG is paying an artist 400m their ROI projections are probably in the billions

uh yeah but its like a high roller type thing. drake gets comps. deal is favorable and he's doing fine money wise. if i was u i wouldn't put much stock in the "drake is stuck in a bad deal" angle. he's good.

No one is saying he’s stuck in a bad deal

But he’s still in a deal. They don’t just give him a pass because they like him or something

    This is about making money

The way that I look at it is there are people who make way more money than me who check all the numbers and have to keep investors happy.

Even if Drake's listener count dropped by 75% he's still doing 100k first week. That's just an album. That doesn't include his other songs that pull massive numbers.

Idk, maybe UMG did step in. I just feel like there are way too many people involved that wouldn't speak up. Way too many egos to keep something like that silent. I also think UMG wouldn't let this keep going for as long as it has. Meaning 2 months later and we're still waiting on a MV for NLU.
