You’re conflating the word “undermine” with “downplay” and they’re not the same at all. Maybe that is what kendrick meant but it doesn’t land

In the context of behavior

If I undermine someone’s behavior then I’m making them less effective at doing what they’re doing or stopping them from doing something

It sounds like kendrick is saying NOT to lessen the effectiveness of alleged behavior. Or to let it keep happening and not undermine it in any way

If you can find me an example of someone using “undermine” that way I’ll take the L but I never heard it

I’ve never once heard undermined used in that fashion

They have somewhat similar meanings but the uses is way different

Undermine is almost always used as like, if someone is doing something and you undermine it, then you made it harder for them to do whatever it is. “They undermined my ability to make money”

Now let’s try to see if they’re interchangeable

“They downplayed my ability to make money”

It’s not the same
